I think it's more like leave your pipe around little kids with paints then a don't leave it around.
She may go on eBay and start a thriving business, cobs in various colors. I like the way the cob texture shows through the paint, doesn't get painted over. Pretty good job for a first effort.
Reminds me of a story I read some years ago about a guy whose wife decided to surprise him by going to the airport to pick him up after he'd been away on a business trip. He was surprised alright - not because she'd bothered to pick him up herself, but that she had his Rolls spray-painted a bright lipstick pink while he was away?
