When you've stocked up on a particular blend, does this make you smoke more of it, or less on the basis that you have plenty and can smoke it any time, thus postponing actually smoking it?

To ask a different way, do you tend to smoke in inverse proportion to the amount you have cellared?

Many probably know the economic principle of diminishing returns. If you own only one shirt, it is precious to you. If you own two, it is half as valuable. If you own fifty, each is a cheap commodity. Not always completely literally, but you get the concept.

Deja vu.

MSO, I swear I’ve seen this thread before. Didn’t you post a similar thread a fair while back?? I recall being interested in the various responses and may have even chimed in. Unless I’m stuck in a weird Groundhog Day situation…?

Depends.

Condor Plug is by far what I have most in my cellar but because it’s hard to get and very costly I tend to not smoke that as much as I would if it were readily available.

St. Bruno RR I smoke too often, actually almost lost my taste for it so I took about a year off from smoking it but I’m back to smoking at least one pouch a week.

I’ll probably never have to buy Condor or St. Bruno ever again but I feel more confident smoking St. Bruno… if I needed to, I could by 100 pouches tomorrow.

Same goes for Erinmore Flake, I’ll be belly up before I make it through the tins I’ve bought over the years.

For me it depends on why I have alot of a blend. I have alot for one of 2 reasons - it's either my daily smoke, or I love it and wanna stock up as much as can in fear of not being able to obtain more in the future. If I have alot because I wanna secure a lot of it for the future, I'd say I don't smoke it any more than other favorable blends (weekly, not daily) because I want to be sure to keep my stock pile instead of blowing through it.

I stockpile (i.e., bulk pounds) of what I smoke the most of, so I smoke what I have the most of. That translates into a handful of home blends that I smoke during the day. I'll dig into other things that I have less of in the evenings for some variety.

Much of my cellar was procured in the spirit of discovery, hence I have a large variety of blends but few in large quantities. The blends I have in large quantities are those I like but do not currently smoke a lot as I'm working through various blends to find other favorites (or dreck). Lately, purchases are morphing to build those blends I know I like and cutting back on the "ooh that sounds good" purchases.

On the one hand, in all the years since I've started pipe smoking, I haven't really found the "One" blend that I wanted to smoke all day, everyday. I have mostly just enjoyed the exploration of all the different blends available.

I have, upon occasion, found a blend I really liked and bought multiple tins that I smoked quite often but after a few months, I move on to something else. I really enjoyed D&R London Dock and bought five or six tins. I have one tin left and I don't know when I will get around to opening it.

That being said, last year I fell in love with The Untouchables by HU, DTM & Michael Apitz. I now have nine tins of it and I smoke at least one bowl a day.
