Recently bought a tin of Homborger Veermaster for the first time and I'm debating whether or not to open it or let it age. Anyone have any experience cellaring this one longterm? I've got enough other tobaccos to keep me busy for a while. Could easily tuck this one away for a couple of years. But does it get better with age? or should I just pop it?

My oldest tins had good tobacco. I recently went through a few tins maybe 5 ish to 8 ish years old. It's not what I remembered from 20 years ago. Not trying to tamp your enthusiasm, maybe my taste changed. I didn't delve into the older tins.

I’ve been smoking some I jarred 5 to 6 years ago. Did not try it fresh, bought a few pounds and jarred it. It has frankly been a bit disappointing. I expected sublime and sweet. Not much sweetness at all. I’m enjoying it but it has not aged as well as other Virginias I have in my cellar.
My experience as well.
There are more flavorful/exciting/interesting pure VA blends out there, even after some years sealed up in my basement.

It's a super mild, bright and 'fresh' virginia. If that's what you like, you'll love Veermaster. It doesn't change too much over time, maybe a bit more complexity but I'd rather lean FVF for this flavor profile of virginias.

What would you recommend that could be purchased in larger sizes (8oz, 250g, etc.)?

KBV's Byronic series is really good, but with the way he processes his blends I don't know that they'll age dramatically.

WCC is a great rec, I'm a big fan of their vapers and have a good amount of Old Dominion stocked up. Definitely improves with some age. Rouxgaroux, Simply Red, Simply Orange are all great with a couple of years on them. I'd even mix and press them but could be 5+ years before you get serious rewards for the effort.

PS bulk is good too: Luxury Birdseye Flake, Luxury Twist Flake, Luxury Navy Flake - all top tier ager. Twist in particular is a little strong for me on the nic side, I have some from 2013/2015 that's just rounding into perfection.

That should be enough recs to help you delete a paycheck or two :ROFLMAO:

Sure.
Watch City Simply Orange
“ “ Red
KBV Brown Flek
KBV Van Gogh
Cornell and Diehl Opening Night
“ “ Virginia Flake
McClelland Christmas Cheer

Interesting. Taste is so subjective. I, personally, have always enjoyed HV as one of my favorite VAs, and never really liked Van Gogh, but a big +1 to Opening Night and Christmas Cheer. 👍
(Especially Opening Night due to availability.)

Mac Baren Flake and HH Pure Virginia can be (or used to be) purchased in 1 lb boxes. I believe GLP Union Square can be purchased in 8 oz tins. With that said, I wouldn't consider sacrificing the quality of the tobacco and my enjoyment of it for the sake of buying it in bulk and saving a few dollars. Pipe tobacco is dirt cheap even at today's prices. I don't even want to consider smoking a bowl of crap tobacco 5 to 10 years down the road and thinking "Oh, it's okay I'm not enjoying it, I save 8 cents per bowl when I purchased it."
