For my tastes, drying SG flakes is worth the time and trouble as when they are the perfect humidity, I get some awesome smokes. I prefer my flakes to be a tad moist, many come ready to smoke out of the tin, some need a little dry time and none need as much drying as SG.
I never want my blends to be too dry as they will burn hot and lose flavor, everyone has their own preferences as to how moist they like a blend and people need to figure it out for themselves. A pipes construction will have a huge impact on how your tobacco will smoke. A poorly constructed pipe will always make it a challenge to get the most out of your tobacco.

I prefer my tobaccos slightly on the moist side. It has been my experience that tobacco that is too dry loses a lot of flavor. I don't like tobaccos that need a lot of fuss so, for me, if they have to dry out to smoke I usually pass them up.
