does anyone use pipe screens (pro/con)

Pipe screens are not really needed for smoking tobacco in a pipe. They are for the most part for smoking weed in a pipe. I know that in some states if you are pulled over and have a pipe and pipe screens they will test for drugs.

No screens for me, I am suspicious enough all by myself.

Now I'm going to go against the grain here and say why I like my pipe screen:
In NE Ohio, I have to smoke outside because of my living arrangements (Folks) so when the wind is blowing off of the lovely Lake Erie, not only is it strong but constant. So I use the screen to keep the wind from messing up my pipe, not to mention I kinda like the restricted draw.

Never used one, however, if there was such a thing as a pipe sponge, I would really have to try one out. I seem to be getting too much gurgle these days. I'm losing my touch.

Abecox, I think you are talking about a Wind Screen that goes on top of the pipe. Everyone else is talking about the screens that go down inside the pipe!

I've mentioned this before about pipe screens.

A law enforcement friend of mine has told me that if they discover a screen in a pipe they will assume probable drug use and commence a full search of you and the vehicle.

Believe me, if they have to search they bring the puppy out, and he isn't a pet... he's a sergeant.

Around here, a full search "ain't no fun" and any violations are cited.

Even a little fracture in a tail light will get you a big fine to cover the expense.

I don't use 'em and never have been tempted, because of the association with the drug culture aspect. Besides, any halfway decent pipe won't need one to smoke with.
It annoys the hell out of me for someone to snatch up my thirty year old Preben Holm and ask "Crack pipe?" or "Ever smoke anything else in it?"
Its like asking Type I diabetics if they use their insulin syringes for heroin.
