I didn't mean to sound terse in my reply previously..
No worries, I didn't take it as such :)

I usually smoke 5-8 bowls a day, often rotating a few pipes per day and warm water rinse the lot every week or so. I put mineral oil on the pipes and stems after warm water cleaning and let them sit a day or so before wiping off the excess oil and buffing with a rag. My Dunhill is the only vulcanite stem that plays nice with this routine. Based on my experience and habits, I won't buy a new pipe unless it has lucite/acrylic stem.

I prefer ebonite stems. More care is needed for them, but I find them more comfortable. However if the stem has a small button at the end of it I believe I could enjoy acrylic.
