Pipe and Drum, I find that when I buy a new pipe, the first thing I do is try to figure out which kind of tobacco it likes most.

On several occasions I have bought X pipe specifically for Y blend, only to find that it prefers Z blend.

My first instance of this was with a Comoy freehand bulldog. A wonderful pipe well up to Dunhill standards. In my mind I thought "OK, a strong, manly pipe. This will be great for flakes and/or strong Virginias."

Nope. It loves Lat.
On a side note, I have not seen any expensive Comoys for a long time. Is the brand in decline? My bulldog retailed for $500 12 years ago.

Great photos! I just followed you. I need to start using instagram more and facebook less. More pictures less drama!

Thank you all for the kind and encouraging words. I really appreciate it!
@thehappypiper - When I buy a new pipe, it's mostly for the aesthetics. I break them in with fairly mildly flavored blends and then try others to see how the combinations work. There's a Comoys prince in one of the photos above that seems to love English blends. Not sure if the brand is in decline but I found that one on the 'bay' for under $40 NIB!
@shanez - Thank you! The KAD is hitting me hard. I'll be posting pics with my new slip joint knives on IG soon!
@Cosmic - Thanks! See you there!

Pipeanddrum: The knife in the first photo is very nice. Is that made in Japan? Can it be really sharp enough to slice the cake into shag? All the photos looks deliciously. Thank you.

@mrhhw The knife is a Higonokami. Made in Japan. Really quite simple in design and build but very well made and of high quality. It cut the Peterson's 3Ps plug in the same photo with ease. The flakes I cut were about 1/8" thick but I'm certain you could get even finer slices with it.
