This thread gets me thinking about a pipe that I wouldn't smoke. On ebay in Germany there is a meer pipe from 1726. 1726 pipe. It's not so much the price of 3600 Euro (aprox $4200) but the fact that it has survived so long. I'd be afraid to do much with it. On the other hand there is a Dunhill "Lincoln" for sale for 4500 Euro ($5252) Lincoln Dunhill that I wouldn't give a second thought to smoking. Except that personally I wouldn't spend that much on a pipe. Not that I fault people who do. If I was to spend money on something frivolous I think an antique wooden model ship that I can look at as I smoke a pipe would be my preference. When a billion dollars falls out of the sky onto my lap that is.

Don't have a $1,000.00 pipe. Do have a 100 year old meer that I've smoked many times but have now put away for posterity (mine). It should be on a mantle but I don't have one. So, it stays in its box

I wouldn't turn down a $1000 pipe, but not sure I'd spend that much on one. I have estate pipes from ebay that I spent $20 that I love and totally enjoy. My pipes are for smoking and not for art display, although they are all lovely in their own right and deserve a showcase.

Don't really know, probably won't ever know, but I did play catch with a baseball autographed by the entire Red Sox Team and Coaching Staff from 1958.

Where is it now? I dunno!

Back in 2007 I purchased a sterling silver belt buckle set from Navajo silversmith Allison Snowhawk Lee. I've never put it on a belt, it is still attached to the leather display belt. To me it's art and I'll never wear it. So to answer the question about the $1000 pipe...no I would not smoke it.

I have one, but no longer am able to smoke. It is a Dunhill British Bulldog limited edition bent billiard with a silver cap in the shape of a bulldog's head. I got it to take brief smokes outside my (former) bar. The cap has two functions. It directs the heat up from the briar and dissipates it, and it enables you to put a lighted pipe safely in a chest pocket without setting fire to yourself. Since I no longer drink or smoke, sacrifices made to stay alive, I am willing to part with it for a considerable sum.

foggy, I think you should smoke and drink until you take your dirt nap, screw living forever.
I have owned pipes that retailed for 1000.00 but did not pay that much. I smoked everyone and then sold them off for better pipes that only cost 350-450.
