The aroma is one of part of the pleasure of pipe smoking but there are many others. The other two are not relevant.
Whether I'm addicted or not I've no idea since I've not thought about quitting, and I certainly wasn't addicted when I took it up because I came to it as a non-smoker yet I enjoyed it from the off.

Not at all I barely have to pay any attention to it until I'm drawing ash. I mostly have a pipe going at work so I can focus on other things.To be fair, I'm pretty certain its the least hands free nicotine option out there.

Other than my wife or dogs nobody really ever sees me smoking a pipe and if I fantasized about anything while enjoying a bowl it wouldn't be about how I look, lol. I just do it, and enjoy it for what it is.

You must be a clencher then like me. Clamp, light, puff and repeat until it's gone. I assumed @nathaniel meant the preparation work and pipe care. But I quite like all that.
Smoking a bowl of 3P's plug right now. Nothing like sitting in front of the fire and carving off a few slices.
I'm addicted to nicotine and I think pipe smoking is the coolest and most enjoyable way to deliver the nicotine.
The aroma...and the "live for now" contemplation moments....et al...
Perhaps I'm also addicted to the creativity and aesthetics of the pipe itself...rather than the nicotine...light up and live while your here in this veil of tears..called life.
I smoke a pipe because I find it relaxing and enjoy it.
I smoke everyday: when I wake up in the morning with coffee before leaving home, during all afternoon while I work, and sometimes at night to relax after everything is done. It must average 1 to 2 bowls per day.
And I'm not addicted at all; had to go a week without it when I got a cold, it was meh and I missed it but nothing unbearable. It's just very pleasing, useful to work better/longer, and (in my honest opinion) overall healthy; so there's no reason to not enjoy the ancient leaf. But no addiction.
I either gravity fill the chamber or codger scoop. I put more thought and attention toward RYO and cigars than ever go into pipes.
Never really got into that. Takes away from the simplicity of the thing.
I suppose at some level…all three play a role in my pipe smoking. But, in reality, I do not try to parse out the “why” very much. I just know that pipe smoking is an activity I enjoy GREATLY…. and it seems to simply be a part of who I am. When I do not smoke a pipe, I notice it’s absence…. when I do smoke a pipe, I feel more wholly and completely myself.
Although perhaps a bit uncommon, I remember when I was a young kid of about 4 years old, noticing pipes and pipe smoking and thinking in my little kid mind….. that seems good, and right, and true and fun. I want to do that myself someday. And…. I made that happen.

For me it is the aroma...also like the the look of a pipe ...I think it suits me
