How much wine would you have to add to a bottle of vinegar to make it taste good?
My point being, why diminish good tobacco by mixing it with bad?

Rich @ 4 Noggins does sell Walnut in "bulk" (I think he just pops a tub and sells that as bulk) -- 2 ounce minimum
Misu, Sugar Barrel also available this way from 4noggins.

The only mixing I do is Brown Irish Twist with some Cumberland, Haddo's Delight, Big and Burley or the like for my before bedtime sedative. Been doing it a month now and works very well.

[/quote]Mike, you're polluting Irish twist? Shame on you, that stuff's a fine smoke all by itself

Oh yes it certainly is but those others need a little help don't you know.

The only mixing I do is blending about 1/4 or 1/2 aromatic with a straight Va. I like the aromatic qualities of aromatic tobacco but rarely like the body and flavour of aromatics. So I blend just a bit into a good quality Va and enjoy.

Good thing to keep in mind for when I get an overly flavored aromatic or experiment and make my own aromatic and go over board. Which I may do someday. Not the go over board, but try to make aromatics :)

I do my own blending for several reasons. Typically if I have two or three tobacco's that don't amount to much I'll blend them together to make up several bowls instead of scraping for that last bit of tobacco to get one bowl out of it. I've also blended tobacco's together to help with blends that I haven't cared for. In addition to that I've blended a few tobacco's together to come up with some of my own blends to enjoy.
My own creations:

Metalhead Blend I - SG 1792 Flake mixed with Lane MV-1000 (Virginia) and Lane Burley Light, because I can't smoke 1792 by itself.

Metalhead Blend II - equal parts: Lane MV-1000, Lane Burley Light, and Altadis Empire; makes for a great anytime of day smoke. One of my go to smokes.

Metalhead Blend III - equal parts: Lane MV-1000, Lane Burley Light, Altadis Empire and Altadis Count Pulaski; creates more of an English style tobacco.
The Lane blends I use work pretty well for mixing with other tobacco's.

I'm actually opposed to the idea of mixing tobaccos like this -- especially if one is a blend I didn't like on its own. To me, this is like saying, "Hmm. This wine is awful. I think I'll combine it with a really good wine and see if I like that." No. Why would I want to ruin a good blend with a bad one? At best, you'll end up with a mediocre blend that reduces the pleasure of the good blend without significantly raising the qualities of the bad one.
But I'm also a purist when it comes to the blender's vision. I would rather smoke exactly what the blender intended -- for better or worse -- than try to come up with some haphazard, never-to-be-duplicated (or desired) again blend, just to not "waste" tobacco. If a blend is unsmokable to me, why wouldn't I want to throw it out? It's like saying, "Wow, this milk has really gone bad. But I don't want to waste it. So I'll keep drinking it."
No thanks. I've discarded relatively few tins in my life -- maybe a half-dozen over the course of 33 years. But I have absolutely no regrets about it. I'd rather smoke something I enjoy than something I'm enduring just for the sake of economy.

I never blend anything unsmokable but i have found I like PS LNF with a dash of Lane BCA thrown in the middle of the bowl.

I blend and/or mix blends all the time, mainly to use up leftovers. I have, however, developed a couple of blends that I smoke pretty much all the time by combining some well-establised blends. I see no problem with it, and it's led to some of my favorite smokes.

All I ever mix would be Lane 1Q with Carter Hall or Half & Half. I'm also a cigarette smoker and mix Stokkebye Amsterdam or Danish with a cheaper brand like The Good Stuff, Kentucky Select, etc.

My one scraps blending adventure became a tongue torching Frakenbaccy. It was so bad, it turned the jar black. I was proud of it when it began to "merge," or "meld" as they say. Only, I don't think it was supposed to drip like that.
So, I tossed in some expensive blending tobaccos. It caught fire.
Next, I added more scrap burley. Then more scrap Virgina. Then I visited a friend on a farm on the Kentucky-Tennessee border. The friend gave me some real Kentucky leaf that had been drying in his barn. I added that.
The tobacco in my jar grew teeth.
I joke, but I still have the jar of tobacco smoldering in my cellar. I look at it from time to time to remind me to not ever, ever try that again. I'll leave the blending to the pros.

One of my favorites is adding Drama Reserve to pump up the Oriental components of a blend.
Hey Kashmir, after reading many of your posts, I think you and I have very similar tastes. After messing around this week I came up with a very good (to me) blend. 1/4 PS EOS 1/4 McClelland Coyote Classic and 1/2 PS Turkish blend. I plan on mixing up a couple of ozs and see what a little time will do to this mix.

I do alot of my own "Blending" If I have a baccy that is a bit overly topped or cased I like to blend with Carter Hall.
That's exactly what I do! I don't care for CH straight but it makes an excellent base tobacco. I take leftovers of blends I try and don't care for and mix them with CH. My successes so for are C&D Autumn Evening/CH, S.G.Squadron Leader/CH and Esoterica Blackpool/CH. Almost anything I don't like mixed with CH makes an acceptable smoke. Using CH in this way cuts down on waste.

My apologies to those of you that like these blends straight.
