In the summer period ,where possible ,as an afternoon smoke I prefer Virgina forward bled with a slight touch of perique perhaps, this paired with a highball glass of GT makes a nice and refreshing combo, as far as Latakia mixtures go, I dont smoke them anymore,I went thorough that stage in the past

I may sneak a VA flake in over the winter, but I hardly if ever smoke any English blends in the summer.

My usual smokes—c&d dark burley with a touch of their white, sometimes with ramback thrown in—change dramatically with season and weather. So season and weather create variety for me

I do prefer lighter blends in the summer days, VaPer's and Virginia's. I'm a fan of DFK anytime, unless I'm miserably hot. I enjoy Three Nuns with a small camp fire using smaller twigs and sticks. The taste of Three Nuns reminds of that same smoke essence. I have plenty of Latakia in stock; however, I've unintentionally not smoked any for a while. I could understand a correlation to colder temps though.

I've always been an English smoker, with the occasional nod to orientals. However, I just ordered several cobs and on a whim included Missouri Meerschaum 150 Years. I loaded that into one of my new cobs and fired it up. At first, I was thinking--where's the flavor, where's the body, why does anyone smoke this stuff? But, by the the end of the bowl I was starting to actually enjoy it. I'm sure it helped that I was on the porch and it was in the mid-90's and humid. Maybe there is something to be said for non-English blends, especially in summer.

Like one of the other posters, I too will reach for English blends more often when the weather gets a little cooler, but I just cant do English blends in the summer.

Dont know if it is the brutal heat and humidity of the deep south, but I find Latakia really only shines for me on cool autumn evenings or sitting around a fire with friends during the winter.

As for VAs, VaPers, VaBurs, and whatnot, those have no season for me. Just depends on the mood.
