pipefish, thanks for posting that older thread. It's helpful to get ideas by seeing what others use.

I take a cob or two and a double baggie of tobacco and a nail and some pipe cleaners. Get a Bic when I land and then toss the Bic on the way to the return flight.

Jack-
Last half dozen flights I've taken: no problem with lighter (s) on my person or carryon. Pipe tools - the ones with the dangerous (!!) 2" or less blades and no point, are not allowed except for checked-in baggage. So those stay at home unless I am planning on checking a bag.

I usually bring along an Albin volcano poker in the Bradley Mountain pipe roll that that Gloucesterman had mentioned. Those are perfect imo.
It fits a zippo, pipe tool, tobacco pouch and a pipe in a stiff, protective waxed canvas roll. I just ordered another so as to have a ready, available aromatic kit for smoking in areas where I may happen upon others. That will house the Pete De Luxe 11S. Those two, along with a MM patriot stuffed somewhere, Non-aro and aro blends, lots of pipe cleaners and Qtips are my typical travel companions.
I like the Albin poker--didn't cost much, smokes well, smaller and relatively sturdy.

I have no problem with nails and last trip I took a small czech tool and no problem as carry-on items. Put them in my toiletry bag. I have never tried to get matches or lighter through as carry-on items. I will try a Bic next time and see if they take it away. The rules are clear, no lighters and no matches, but losing a Bic is no big deal so I will try it.

Czech tools don't have sharp blades. The pipe tools I have do.
Perhaps rules on matches and lighters differ from carrier to carrier. They can''t go in checked luggage, but can be carried on.

pipedreamin, looks like a great kit you have there. I like the rustic look of that poker as well.

"They can''t go in checked luggage, but can be carried on."
You are absolutely correct. "Safety matches" and lighters can be carried on per TSA:

I travel by air twice a year to Florida to visit Dad. Dad is a non smoking anti tobacco nazi type but, he's my Dad so I put up with it. Fortunately, Cocoa Beach Florida is a pleasant environment year round so I can enjoy a smoke after he goes to bed and he goes to bed early!
I have a pipe combo pouch. I usually travel with a Longchamp billiard, a supply of pipe cleaners, a pipe nail and my Zippo. I pack it in my checked bag. It always works.

+1 what Mike said, except I leave my Zippos at home. You can buy pipe combo pouches for $20.00 plus, & I take my favorite pies that I don't mind losing too much. But never had a problem.

Regarding pipe pouches. Are they lined to keep tobacco fresh or are those separate tobacco pouches?

Yes most are lined. This one, which I love, is only $20.00 but will only hold a smaller pipe or a pipe with the stem removed. You will not find anything close in quality/utility for the $$$

@jackswilling thanks for the link. Looks like that will fit the bill as long as my mm diplomat will fit in it.

You may have to remove the stem. It is not a large bag, but just the right size for the road in my opinion. Holds everything you need, a cob, tobacco, a lighter, pipe cleaners and a tool. Very tidy and handy. Quality.
