Yeah I always remove the top layer of ash about halfway through the bowl.
Sometimes, probably most smokes, I flick ash on the ground. Once maybe twice or thrice.

I sometimes do, it's not something im very aware of anymore. I don't think I do it every smoke, but I think on most smokes at least once, kinda go if I feel it's needed or taste is ashy. not sure if what I'm doing is ideal, works for me.
I usually don't agitate the ash or bump the pipe for the ash to fall, just what falls naturally by flipping the pipe, maybe a small tap with my finger.

Yeah, me too. I'm an ash man. If the ash looks like it needs a gentle poke and dump, I'm happy to oblige. Then a little tamp and relight and we're good to go.
My technique is such that I only ever need a single match and I smoke with a cadence so perfected that no ash is created and the bowl is clean enough to eat out after my last draw. Hope that helps.
Last time I tried that, I got very angry looks.
