I still feel confused about the early Sasieni one dots. I just recently purchased an oldie on the Bay.

I would say you did well. In the 5th picture, you can see why the Sterling band was applied. I think you will find the Patent below the London Made. The town names began with the Four Dots in 1924, the shape numbers, when seen, do not correspond to the later numbers seen, but the shape of the pipe you bought looks like The Marlborough, or possibly The Westminster. One Dots were made from 1919-23-4. Image from a 1930's catalog,

Hi dmcmtk,

Thank you. The silver band is clearly a repair, I was aware of that.

I will carefully butter her up :)and remove it to glue the crack, the tiny hole to drill in first.

See if I want the band back in its original position, or not.

Actually I am happy with my what could be best purchase so far this year.Burning with anticipation on what's to come.

Could it be pre patent, what is your opinion ? I feel somewhat ecstactic and cannot wait to start working on it.

The button is clearly fishtail, not orific, do you not agree ?

I meanwhile studied the catalog, it is wonderful and I laways liked the lovat shape in particular.

On the first, in the 4th picture, I can see the P in Patent below London, and also the / on the other end which is the end of the mark 150221/20. I don't think I have ever seen a Sasieni with an orific bit, not to say it's not possible, but I haven't seen one.

Do you consider both listings "oafish" ? Seems to me that at least Piero is a trusted seller with some knowledge ?

I still feel confused about the early Sasieni one dots. I just recently purchased an oldie on the Bay.

Apparently it went almost unseen and I was the only bidder. Would like to read your opinion; it only accomodates the old logo and the London made stamp, no patent or shape nr, no town name. From the somewhat unclear pictures I cannot detect a patentnr. on the stem. Small blue dot on top.

I bow to your better knowledge ; thank you for the always elaborate posts [:)]

Orlandofurioso,
First, Thank you for your kind words, and congratulations on a nice find. I did see that pipe, but passed mainly on account of the seller's shipping policies. I am glad you were not deterred and that the shipping worked out for you.
Turning to your question, both links are for the same listing. I do not know the seller, but I do not put much stock in transaction numbers or feedback ratings. They are not useless, but they tell a lot less about a seller than many seem to believe. I also do not necessarily equate long description write-ups with accurate knowledge. There are some sellers who write long descriptions riddled with tall tales and inaccurate information. At least one such seller has been known to rusticate over very large fills and then omit the modification from their long-winded write-up. As to the listing to which you are referring, the photos provided no clear look at the nomenclature or dot, both of which matter a great deal. The seller may well be honest and correct about the pipe, but I need to see the evidence to buy the story and pipe that comes with it.

I could be wrong about the town names, I may be confusing it with the beginning of the Four Dots. I do remember Tony Soderman mentioning something in one of his ebay listings, I just can't remember what it was...

Buroak,

thank you for your kind comments and I fully agree with your opinion on long winding (seller) talk.

I must say I was rather persistent ( to my shame; but in love and war all is fair ) and soon came to good terms about the shipping before I fired my bid.

I am all thumbs when it comes to posting pics.but I promise to do the best I can, once the pipe is refurbished.

You're quite welcome. The band has probably solved the problem, and I would not disturb it. I have several pipes saved by silver bands, and they are fine. Also, there is no shame in a silver band. They hurt resale value, but that is all. When I have had to have one put on an estate pipe, I thought (and still think) of it as rescuing a pipe. Like a lot of rescue dogs, rescue pipes are often very good.

The good times are killing me, or am I killing my darlings ?

I stumbled over this one and could not resist:

Could any any of you brothers out there make an educated guess ? Was it a good catch, or was I only acting on my impulse :)

I sometimes do and get carried away ,but if a person's not a little impulsive, they don't have a pulse

My awaited Sasieni one dot arrived yesterday already and I think it is a gem of a pipe.

Thank you dmcmtk, you were pretty close; it is a 70 ( with an odd flagged 1 ) later named Stamford.

If any of you guys can instruct me how to , I'll be happy to oblige and post pictures one of these days.

Please take into consideration; English is my second or so language and as said I'm all thumbs :)
