So, after years of wanting an IM Corona Old Boy I used my Father's Day gift card to order one today. I see that IM Corona also makes flints; it seems they are softer than "regular" flints from my reading. But do I really need those special flints? I sure don't want to foul up my new lighter by using cheap flints!

I've been using Zippo flints in my Corona lighter for years and it still works fine. I tried the Corona flints once because I heard they were better, but I did not notice a difference, and they did not last longer or shorter. Just my opinion...

I've been using Zippo flint's with no issues. As far as gunking up your new lighter, make sure you use high quality (premium) butane. Near zero impurities, something like less than 30 parts per million.

Thank you, gentlemen. It is good to know but I can just use my zippo flints with no worries. I know I need to use high quality butane; I use Xikar brand in my Xikar lighters now. Thanks for the information!

I've always used the IM Corona flints. Five in a pack with a brush for $3.44. Never had a problem with them.
I buy just about all my pipes, tobacco, and accessories online, specifically SmokingPipes, and I haven't seen Zippo flints on SmokingPipes' site.

Just a guess here, but t I don't suppose there are too many flint factories in the world. The Bics etc are by far the biggest users of flints. For all we know Corona flints = DuPont flints = zippo etc.
