It may not make you rich, but a useful adage is, don't trade on market fluctuations. Either work with a certified financial advisor you have reason to trust, or do due diligence in finding companies with solid earnings, cash reserves, and if possible, dividends. Balance equities, mutual funds, and bonds, and don't churn the account with every up and down. Or at least, that's what my dad, who worked in the bond business said.
