I really like this forum it is actually one of the friendlier ones I have found. But there are always a couple posters looking for fights, looking to boss you around, etc and I have no problem with them being on forums either because every forum has an Ignore Button lol.
You what mate? Well your mother wears combat boots!

I think some of the old heads (myself included at times) are just annoyed at some of the new traffic basically using new threads as Google search. There are about a half dozen topics that are a large majority of the new threads here now, when a lot of these questions could be answered by the Search function, either Google or even locally on these forums.

Just because older threads are locked to new comments, does not mean they are not valuable resources to answer a lot of questions.

And to not stop following someone after a request to stop is a huge breech of manners.

Give me their names, those you've asked to stop, and I will deal with them. Or just post them yourself; some will be embarrassed.

Here's the point

Here's the point you don't have to respond. If everyone feels the same way the thread will die. But guess what? Not everyone feels like you do many people old and new will respond to a thread they find interesting or whatever. Why should you want to take away their right to give their opinions or for me to ask for their opinions. No one is forcing you to respond or read the thread just ignore it if you don't like it.

When someone asks a question about something I have some knowledge of, I will take the time to answer it as best as I can. I have never once told someone to do a search for the info. People come here for answers and I believe it is the job of the old timers to answer as best as we can and not rely on the search engine of this site which can be quite lacking.

I always think the same thing when I see the old timers acting like that. I think if you don't like people talking about the same things over and over again then it might be time to go somewhere else for a while. Especially something like this where people are going to ask the same questions that have been asked. And no searching it ain't the same. You can't get clarifications and you might not have as much of a rapport with the people from an old dead post.

I think where companies source their briar matters a great deal, aside from workmanship. I've had great luck with Peterson, almost all have been good smokers, clean tasting, and the one that wasn't finally broke-in. Last I heard they get their briar from Spain, and from Corsica for the high-grades.

But I've had bad luck with Rossi, the ones I tried smoked bitter for me, I couldn't smoke Virginias in them. I use them now for burley blends that are a little too sweet, because they counter the sweetness. I've had the Rossi's for years now, so aging of briar apparently isn't a factor there.

But I believe Rossi is made by Savinelli, as I also believe Stanwell is, and I've been happy with my Italian-made Stanwells. So go figure. The Stanwell bowl coating was much better than the Rossi. So if they're both made by Savinelli, do they use the same briar source for both? I don't know.
