Hello pipe smokers.

I had dizzines from smoking out of a pipe I made recently.

It was made from a 20y.o. dried wild olive tree.

Coated in tung oil but I've cemented the bowl with ash cement.
I was ready to smoke my Black & Gold from Mcconnell - which I just started to smoke, but whilst smoking in briar).

What causes my dizziness?
Could it be from the oil? Or the wood burning?
I am usually a fast smoker, but with briar have no problem.

What else could be the issue?

Thanks!

It makes sense to take extra precautions and coat a bowl that you made yourself since you're the warrantee provider and there's no fallback for a burnout.

I’ve made several pipes and never felt the need to coat the bowl because I was the “original warrantee provider”...

Following a break in process is much more important. And if there is a soft spot that burns through, I’ll make another. Not like I spent hundreds of hours making it that I expect to recoup from, well, myself. ?

So ash cement is only for aestetic reasons?

Not sure why you coat the bowl. The only problems I've ever had with a bowl was when there were sand pits under the surface. That's a 1 in 100 type of thing based upon my own experience. I don't believe a coating would help with that. Other than that, unless you puff like a madman and ignore the bowl warming up, I don't see why there should be any problems.

In the semi-rural NorthEastern USA
every pipe smokes differently. Part of the charm really. But one of the tricks with pipe smoking is you get lots of nicotine on a slow drip. If the pipes more open or you are more excited (maybe like trying your new pipe you just made..to go you on a limb), you will smoke a lot faster and take longer draws. That increases the rate which the nicotine gets into your system. How quickly a drug gets into your blood stream and then into your brain makes a huge difference.

But if I don't inhale, would I still get a nic hit? I'm guessing you can still absorb nicotine even if you're not inhaling into lungs?
I only retrohale like 1 or 2 puffs.
