So this question is for the folks that smoked cigarettes, and left it for the pipe. I just turned 40, and I plan to leave the cigarettes I've smoked since like 14 or 15. I smoke about 2 packs a day of full flavor, and my pipe maybe 5 times. I'm a heavy smoker. It has to end.

So I need advice of what to expect. What tobacco should I buy that's high Nicotine. The chest hit from a cigarette will be missed. When will that end.

All advice is welcome. I look extremely fit, but I do cough all day. I was athletic, and now I get out of breath. I have to stop inhaling cigarettes and start enjoying my pipe flavors the proper way (I do not inhale the pipe) . That chest hit always brings me back to cigarettes.

I've never tried to switch over to a pipe though. Give me some advice please and thank you!

Whether it’s cigarettes, dip, vaping, snus, or even cigars - one way of enjoying tobacco can’t break the cycle of another way of enjoying tobacco.

You have to want to stop and need a plan and ppl around you to help.

I quit using tobacco entirely a few years back, but used nicotine pouches like Velo, Zyn, and a few others. Those were worse for me than my pipe. I was using a can a day (24 pouches) at 7mg each.

Sure, I bought some strong pipe tobacco, but I was missing the lip feeling the same way you’ll miss the oral and inhalation fixation of cigarettes.

I will say this, avoid any activities that make you want a cigarette as much as possible and other ppl that smoke cigarettes too. As bad as that sounds, when I quit cigarettes years back, I cut my friends out for a month until I was off of them, but that’s because I was over that habit. Cigarettes taste like crap anyway.

I wish you luck, but if you don’t make the transition the first go round, keep trying. It’s not failing as much as it’s learning how to overcome a different experience.

I started smoking cigarettes as a kid and developed the habit/addiction. I quit as a teenager, and it was tough even only having smoked sparingly (less than a pack a day) for a few years.

My father-in-law smoked his entire adult life, starting when he joined the Army. He was a heavy smoker. He had tried to quit a few times but always went back to it. My mother-in-law would attempt to restrict his cigarette consumption with limited success. When he was in his 80s he started to develop dementia. My mother-in-law became more successful at limiting his cigarette consumption by telling him that he had already smoked X amount for the day. Over time, she was able to convince him that he had smoked much more than he actually had, up to the point where he was barely smoking at all. Eventually, he simply completely forgot that he had ever smoked and never asked for another cigarette.

I wish you the best in quitting cigarettes. It will be difficult, but you can do it.

Really the only thing that worked for me was Swedish Snus. There was nothing else that kept the nicotine cravings at bay.

I still use snus to this day, though much less. This allows me to smoke my pipe for pleasure more than maintenance.

I wish you the best. I smoked cigarettes for 30 years, January 3rd will be a year since my last cigarette. I’m 47… in 2020 I smoked roll ups and that got me off of buying cartons and saved me money, I also started reducing my daily cigarettes from 20 to to 4 per day over the course of the year. Immediately I missed inhaling, which I’m guilty of from time to time but the more time goes by the less I need a quick fix or that lung hit. 3 Sails and a charcoal filter is very mild. I’m now moving towards burley blends more and more. BUT… I vape for nicotine. All I’ve done is switch one habit for another. I’m not happy I picked up vaping but I am reducing my nicotine % gradually so I’m hoping to put that down next year. I’m a nicotine lover. Caffeine and nicotine are part of my baseline but I’m slowly moving towards complete or near reduction. Take your time and reward yourself for success, it has taken me years to mentally get to this point. You are starting at a good age and it’s natural to start caring more about health. I figure I get there in the end and moderation is key… blah, blah blah…Good luck man!

I was like you for many years. At the same age I decided to stop. What I did was switch to vaping and that was much easier to quit a year later. You just have to find what works and wrap your head around it. Years later - everything tastes better and I no longer miss a cigarette other than times of extreme stress and anxiety and it's only slight. It gets better with time. Now I find the smell and taste of cigarettes repulsive.

Me and a friend got this book Allen Carr's Easy Way To Stop Smoking: Carr, Allen: 9780615482156: Amazon.com: Books - https://www.amazon.com/Allen-Carrs-Easy-Stop-Smoking/dp/0615482155/ref=asc_df_0615482155/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312069250960&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8531292178166223657&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9010934&hvtargid=pla-569104907956&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=61316180599&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=312069250960&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8531292178166223657&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9010934&hvtargid=pla-569104907956

It’s a strange book in that it kills all the myths we tell ourselves about cigarettes and you continue to smoke while reading. I only read the book while actually smoking and on the last page it literally says now put out your cigarette , you are done smoking…

I quit entirely for about 6 years , then one night I just broke and lit up a smoke at a poker game , and was back in the habit about half a pack a day. Camel non filter. A friend of mine a Cigar smoker suggestedPipe because I explained that my creative side was completely numb without nicotine and that I had been enjoying books and music again for the first time since quitting cigarettes, my quality of life was just better with nicotine.

I came to grips with the fact that cigarettes and inhaling were just no good and picked up the pipe I still struggle because I need that nicotine and cigs are just too dam convenient especially when traveling. One thing that helps is snuff like when you’re on a plane as I was just the other day.I went to the bathroom twice and just got my fix, was at a bar and the weather outside was -9 so just took a couple hits every hour.

for me 5 brothers satisfies when I just want a no fuss nicotine hit and a quick smoke and I actually enjoy the flavor of it a no nonsense Burley.

Also the Gawith Hoggarth shags like dark birdseye and Kendal Dark and Dark Kentucky are good quick fixes.

I think you can read that book and it will help you get off cigarettes and you can still have nicotine in your life , just in different ways , and to be honest I don’t think the occasional cigarette is that bad you have to go easy on yourself and do your best to be your own master but don’t be fanatical about it or it will just lead to bumming out and that’s not what life is about.

best of luck to you …

I quit a near 2 pack per day habit in 2007. I was very committed. Used Chantix but I think the commitment was the key. After about 10 days, I just quit. I don't think there's any backing into it. Haven't had a single puff since. I quit all smoking altogether for about six months. Then tentatively smoked some cigars to see if I could without being sucked back into cigarettes. I found that I could and from there evolved to pipes.

My recommendation is to not solely seek nicotine satisfaction as your objective with pipes. Not sure you'll ever get there. Take the time to try some different genres and most importantly, be patient and learn to smoke a pipe properly. It is way, way more satisfying than cigarettes ever thought of being. But you'll need to come to that belief yourself for it to work.

Good luck.

I love smoking too much to quit cig or pipe or anything. I was off of cig for few years, but I was more or less stuck with my vape. Vape was good enough to distract me and replaced cig. Similar thing can happen with pipe. If I have a bowl, I won't look for a cig for awhile. But there's that desire for quick fix from cig all the time.

that's how I quit the cigs. I wasn't trying I just wanted another source of nicotine and the day I got my order gave away my cig tobacco cause for the first time ever I knew I wouldn't finish it. Neat thing with los snus you can portion it down to help tapper. The thing with quiting cigs is different ways work for different people. Which is why the most common thing among people who have quit cigs is having tried many methods or systems. One guy I knew could quit by lighting a cig taking three puffs and throwing it away. Kept it from getting too bad for him. No one thought it would work but it did.
So keep at it is the best advice period.
