@ jndyer - Spent Christmas of 2015 at Disney World and took one of my pipes with me. Stayed at a Disney resort and smoked the pipe many times sitting next to a river that ran through the grounds. It was a great place to smoke. Would easily make the top three favorite smoking spots.

Thanks papipeguy, I've always wondered about the origins of that L.L. Bean pipe. Great heft, but not heavy, well-made. The stinger, which was not easily removable, seemed to cramp the flavor somewhat, so i eventually traded it off, but with regrets. My current classic straight pot cylindrical bowl pipe is an Amadeus, almost identical size, weight and shape, and no stinger; the only flaw is the truncated stamp, "deus."

mso, my pipe does not have a stinger but rather the hole is cut like a clover leaf. The idea being that you can fold a pipe cleaner to insert in the tenon to act as a filter. Interesting design that I hope can be saved by a pipe repairmen.

These days it's a Pin Trader site. The Indian is still outside.
Brian Levine is a huge collector of Disney tobacciana, by the way. For those with Facebook access, check this out: https://m.facebook.com/DisneyTobaccianaCollection/

This was so cool to read about. I never got to visit Disney World until '98 so missed out. Makes perfect sense in retrospect.
Damn shame they had to close them.

I went to Disney World in Orlando a couple of years ago. How I wished the pipe shop still existed. There's a cigar shop located in Downtown Disney, but it's a sorry excuse for a cigar shop and very unimpressive.

Hi all,
Let me chip in on a few of the questions:
1. Walt did smoke a pipe but, only in his younger Kansas City days. Once he arrived in California and started making money, he switched to cigarettes and the occasional cigar only. I have talked to a few people that worked closely with Walt and none remember him smoking a pipe or having one in his office in L.A. at all.
2. The picture at the top of the thread is of a part of my collection that I took for the side article on Walt here on PM.
3. The tobaccos and the pipes were sourced from multiple different vendors. Bids would go out and whoever was the best won the contract.
4. The Disneyland Tobacco Shop closed in May of 1990. I was working on Main St. the day it closed. The tobacco shop at Walt Disney World closed prior to 1988 and was condensed into the Market House on the other side of the street. I bought a corn cob pipe and some tobacco there in January of 88.
5. I have spoken to the son of the initial owner of the Disneyland Shop. It was a leased operation and thus carried a wide assortment of traditional smoke shop items including Charatan and Dunhill pipes plus the meerschaum that Mike showed above. None of these had any Disney markings. There were Disneyland stamped pipes. The ones I have seen all came from the Charatan factory during the time Lane owned it. These are few and far between.
6. sjmiller is correct that there are some great smoking areas that one can enjoy a bowlful and watch the world go by at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. These areas are some of my favorite memories of my trips.
7. The Facebook group for the collection is here https://m.facebook.com/DisneyTobaccianaCollection/ and if you go through all the photos you will see most of my collection and some other folks that have sent photos. I welcome all to look and submit photos to the group.
Let me know if you guys have any questions.

Ingenious. While mummy and the kids would go see Micky & cie, dad would have a ball in the tobacco shop.

Everybody was happy.
That sums up what Walt had in mind for Disneyland at the start. He envisioned a place where parents and their kids could have fun together. I think that vision has dimmed somewhat over the years.

@brianlevine:

Thanks for the historical background & the photos of the tobacco. Interesting that a Latakia blend was available.
@tuold:

Maybe a cheap pipe, but full of character.
@1coyote:

Would be interested in seeing photos of your Disney tobaccos (as the saying goes, "Didn't happen without photos").
