I was just commenting if anyone goes through a strange period of only reaching for a few consecutively for days on end, knowing everything they have they are fine with.
Yes, I often have times where my smoking is self limited to 2-3 Vaper flakes/ribbons for an extended period.
At my rate of consumption I already have a lifetime+ cellar, but l rarely dip into it because I’ll discover new favorites that I’ll get deeply engrossed with. Currently my obsession are the HU flakes and ribbons.

I know at this point I can not tell you the tins I have open and drying. My problem is I only find out 4 times a year if that. I only know when I do cellar arranging. And at that point they are crispy. Rubbed out it is NOT dust but I'm sure I am missing out on flavor components. Can you send me links to mylar for best price and I also need the sealer right?? I think I need an overhaul and just need to do the 80/20 ratio for storage. 80 needs to go to storage and the rest for immediate smoking. Thanks if anyone can send this mylar link that would be appreciated.

Search Amazon for 7 mm mylar and you'll be presented with numerous brands and sizes. I've found something around 5" x 5" works well.

I bought a dealer but have found a clothes iron works effectively and easier. I set it at a higher heart level. Jesse reported success with a hair iron.

I guess I have about 50 blends on hand, but only about 20 open or jarred and available. I will get samples, or pouches, or bulk in open jars (not being aged) that I will smoke in rotation. Probably too much of the best tends to get saved. In the approximately 20 blends available, I think I focus on about half of them that are really in rotation. If you smoke only a bowl or two a day, with some days off, progress is glacial. But at this point, I sure can't complain about not having good blends on hand. Dunhill originals, McClelland, Seattle Pipe Club, etc.

I've been into variety basically ever since I started. I'm the same way with cigars. That said, I will smoke the same blend each morning day after day. Usually GHC Dark Flake or HH Bold Kentucky. I like Irish Flake, too, but don't smoke it as often. My big problem is I am always looking for the next, new (to me, anyway) blend, so I end up with lots of tins and jars I need to finish.

sometimes I'll smoke the same thing for three whole days straight. Or if there isn't choice I can be just as contented with the same ole thing.
Yeah, me too, Bob. Usually it's whatever I have handy, but if I've just cracked a tin of something I'll smoke it for several days -- CD's Dark Cherry Cav is probably the most recent example, but Frigate, Belmont Station, 3 N Yellow or Green too, whatever falls to hand. It can be a lat bomb, an aro, oriental, or what-have-you -- I'm happy with any/all.

I have a really wide cellar (lots of blends, only deep on a handful) because I like trying new blends. I keep 10-14 in rotation at any time, with the rest stored away. Even if I buy 8oz tins - or the rare bulk, I jar most of it and leave 2oz or so to put into rotation. From that 10-14 blend batch, I smoke til one runs out and replace it with something new. So currently I’m hammering through a tin of War Horse Bar, while a 100gr tin of Comoy Cask No.11 has lasted a LONG time. I like it, but it’s a once every two weeks type of blend compared to WHB. At an avg of 2 bowls a day, this lets me “learn” each blend, but rotated in something new with just enough frequency to keep it interesting!

I checked my spreadsheet and I have about 125 different blends in my cellar. Most are just a tin or two I bought to try the blend to see if I like it.

Overall, I approach tobacco like spirits and wine. I have a couple of cheap regulars (bulks) that I routinely reach for when I want something I know I'll like but don't have the ability at that particular time to really focus on flavor and complexity. I also have some nice stuff for occasions when I can really enjoy it. To use wine (or Port) as an example, I have plenty of LBV Taylor's Port for whenever I feel like Port but I also have a bit of 1970 Vintage Taylor's that I'll open on occasions such as birthday celebrations, etc. So I'll smoke my Sutliff bulks any old time but when I have time on a nice evening after dinner I'll have something like SPC Plum Pudding SR, or SG St James Flake, or GHC Dark Flake Unscented.

Flats and flats and flats of half pint jars are steadily taking over, mostly bulk stored away in the basement. Although, I'm now getting creative on where to stack more flats of blends that are out for easy access. Places like behind furniture, or in my clothes closet, under the bed, in my office and multiple jars in the cavernous console of my truck. Even my wife, who is prone to hoarding hanging on to stuff, is looking at me sideways.

I used to pick up a baggy of bulk from my b&m, and that’s what I had until I ran out. Then I found this forum and have decided I need to both explore and cellar as much as I can afford. Now I have about 30 varieties of unopened tins 2 to 5 tins deep, about 10 varieties of bulk repackaged 2oz per jar 2 to 8 jars deep, and I have 9 open tins and jars on my desk some of which I don’t, and won’t, have cellared. I’m currently smoking through my Christmas blends “one at a time.” I smoke 2 to 3 bowls a day during the week and 5ish on the weekend.

My New Years resolution will be to have no more than 3 open at a time. Otherwise, I’ll have my whole cellar opened and then what’s the point?

On a side note; with the new C&D sale at SmokingPipes.com I was overwhelmed by the selection so I created a spreadsheet and found that they have over 180 unique blends in stock. If I buy 2lb of each, I could be set for life. Too bad I can’t afford that. Come on lottery!
