I'm still processing why anyone would want the Skipper and Gilligan and Samuel L. Jackson as the human cohabitants, lol, to be stranded with. If it's a Gillgan's Island thing, well then Mary Ann (not implying any monkey business if my wife is reading this) and since there won't be any burgers I don't need Sam describing them. Two's company and I've seen that movie and I'll take female companionship at any level over a coconut or a ball, whatever, or some other guy.

No idea on the tobacco - I guess whatever was at the top of the last favorite list I posted which may be Wilke No. 515.
the point was desert island.... you only get 1 blend

Hell, looking over these lists, I'll be travelling with my entire cellar from now on. Then I can just build a raft to get everyone on the island off.
Usually these posts ask for just one blend, ha ha.
this guy gets it.

No!, No!, No!, the OP says Five Blends!
If it were only one blend, I'd have to go with Walnut
With all due respect, the OP doesn't know WTF he's talking about.
"Desert Island (whatever)" means one item that you will have to subsist on, forever. Five blends is a normal day in my car, or the usual trip to the B&M. We're talking sacrifice and suffering here!

1. Haunted Bookshop
2. HH Burley Flake
3. Solani Aged Burley Flake
4. Bobs Chocolate Flake
5. Germains BK Flake (I will give alternate status to Dunbar here, although I am mostly a burley guy, Dunbar is the one Virginia I always enjoy. I will just hope the one jar I have will last me for the rest of my life 🥲)

If I could be promised an unlimited supply, I could easily live on 5 blends, I could probably do 3 comfortably enough. Sadly, I lost my taste for latakia during a 2ish year hiatus from the pipe. Hopefully it returns one day, or I am gonna die with most of a pound of Pirate Kake.

Top dozen in alphabetical order (so far). Unable to get US blends in the Land Of The Brits, sadly.

Gawith Hogarth American BB
McConnell Maduro
McConnell Original Oriental
Rattray's 7 Reserve
Rattray's Old Gowrie
Robert Lewis 123 Mixture
Robert Lewis Orcilla Mixture
Samuel Gawith Best Brown Flake
Samuel Gawith Sam's Flake
Samuel Gawith St James Flake
Solani Aged Burley Flake Blend 656
Special Virginia (JTI)
I cannot say you arent missing out on a couple good blends, but if I had to choose a side of the pond based on tobacco alone, I might choose Europe. We can have all the Cornell and Diehl we can afford to buy, and all we want is G&W, SG, Esoterica, Solani, Stokkebye, Mac Baren, Germains, etc.

If you ever get a chance to have some sent, definitely try Haunted Bookshop and Briar Fox. C&Ds limited runs are usually pretty good as well, I still have a couple tins of Eight State Burley and various Sun Bears, they are fantastic.

Going by the OP's standard, my five would be (in no particular order):

GLP Stratford
GH Brown Flake Aromatic
LJPeretti D-9507
Dunhill My Mixture 965 (Murray's version)
C&D Guilford Courthouse

If I could only take one, I'd take D&R Windsail Silver and a crap-ton of rolling papers. I'd give up the pipe if limited to only one tobacco.

(For those saying a desert island selection can only be one item, there's a reason it's called "Desert Island Discs" and not "Desert Island Disc.")

I picked only one, but the OP said five, so I'm not sure what you are getting at, I guess I could add four more, lol - it's his fantasy.

Speaking of fantasies, you tossed in the three guys, lol, I'll stick with one gal.
naw you did right.
But your one failure was not choosing Samuel L. Jackson...... He knows what you said, and he will find you.

Hah. Professor could at least pull a MacGyver and make stuff with a coconut and some salt water.

I once did a month with nothing but a tin of Doblone D'Oro and didn't get sick of it so I'll go with that.
A good, well rounded blend.
If I tried to pick a top 5 I'd just end up with a list of 20.

Thanks everyone for sharing! I never had the pleasure of trying things like the old Dunhill blends in their non-STG Iterations or even McClelland's (I delved into the non-aromatic tobacco a bit too late) so I envy those of you who have! Happy IPSD everyone. It's almost over, but there's still time for one more smoke before midnight rolls around: three nuns walk into a bar....
