I had a dream last night that I lost all the teeth on the left side of my mouth. Which makes me wonder, whats it like smoking, and clenching mostly for those with dentures?

Good question. I also wonder the same of those with pipe notches or phossy jaw.

I've had dentures for several years. If they are a good fit and you use the correct amount of adhesive, it's not a problem. That being said, I do use the rubber tips on my heavier pipes.

I wear full dentures and prefer to smoke without the dentures. I can't taste the tobacco properly when I'm wearing my dentures. I have no problem clenching the pipe, but of course my gums have hardened so much that clenching without dentures is more comfortable then clenching with dentures. If I'm wearing my dentures I usually smoke full bent pipes because straight pipes cause the seal on my dentures to break making the dentures loose. I also use rubber bits on all my pipes.

If dentures fit properly, you should be able to bite down on one side without the other side popping up. As someone said, they do interefere with taste a little. That's because the upper plate covers the hard palate and there are some tastebuds up there. But most are on the tongue so it shouldn't be a major issue.

Assuming your dentures fit properly, it's not an issue. I use the rubber softy bits on all my pipes, though. I don't use adhesive for my dentures and still clench a pipe most of the time with no problems.
FYI, I'm probably the youngest person you know who wears dentures. Got them when I was 26
I find your dream interesting, though. Seems a lot of people have dream/nightmares about losing teeth. Years ago I had a roommate who had regular nightmares about his teeth falling out. It really shook him up. I guess we're all bothered by different things...

talking about dentures makes me queasy.
Nah, buddy. It ain't so bad. They are what you make of them. We all play the hand we're dealt. Sure, I'd love to have real teeth that were healthy ... but I don't. What I do have is a hollywood perfect set of pearly whites that melt the ladies like ice cream in July, something God didn't see fit to bless me with. Not that I'm complaining. I've been very blessed in plenty of other ways.

When the time comes, so want to carve me a set of Opal dentures like these. These were made by an Australian Opal miner who made these famous in the lapidary circles.

Well, hopefully, I can make mine a little better, but when the light hits them, they explode with color.

That's quite a grill, Cosmic. Careful not to let the hip-hop guys see it or they will steal your idea!
I SERIOUSLY considered a gold tooth when I got mine, but eventually decided it was just a little too sleazy :)

Brigham had pipes with "dental bits" designed for the denture wearer's comfort.

I don't have dentures, but when I put the bit's button behind my teeth, the pipe just sort of hangs there without any pressure required.

Cosmic,

that's awesome.
When my time comes, and it is coming, I hope you're accepting commissions because I'd love an opal grill!
Those look too cool!

I have full dentures, and do use adhesive with them. The only time I have a problem clenching a pipe is when it gets to the 3 oz. range in weight. Up to 2 1/2 oz it's all good.
