Hi all, I have a newly acquired Deluxe System pipe from 1979. Unfortunately, it came without the condenser piece. There are threads in the stem for one. IMG_9933.jpeg

I don’t have an opinion on whether these improve the smoking experience or not, but would like the pipe to be “complete”. I’ve browsed a few other posts here about it and saw suggestions to email Peterson about getting a replacement. The rep that replied to me said that it would unfortunately not be possible, since the condenser dimensions have changed multiple times over the years. I can only speculate that they don’t have any on hand.

I’d like to assess any other options at my disposal for getting a replacement condenser in this pipe. The current run of Deluxe System Pipes have much smaller condensers, which do not fit.

TIA

these are probably the smaller ones you already found.
Yeah, I bought one of these and they’re smaller. I think Peterson’s current run of deluxe pipes have a narrower tenon as compared to this ‘79.

well I have a system spigot, that little part is buil into the stem design for cost savings.. but I also have an army filter pipe.

And the filter acts as a condensor.

Could try just finding a thin piece of plastic, cutting it to size and making a tube out of it. Paper as well.

Yeah, no.
The condenser drops the stem’s airway below the fire hole in the reservoir, a feature that was molded into stem on some lines, but threaded on many, and somewhere along the line only on the Deluxe and Premier systems.
Many smokers over the years thought they were a gimmick like most “stingers” and removed them not realizing they're a design feature of the system on the pipes that had them.

If you do find someone that makes or sells these please let me know, I am also looking for one for my 1972 Deluxe.

I have the ability to make them. I am working on getting the exact dimensions and will experiment with aluminum and other materials to see what works best. I will update if I am successful
Awesome. I was gonna say, a part like this should be quick work for someone with a cnc machine... wild that a company like Peterson wouldn't use their old documentation to just make a run of a bunch from each era and stock them. They'd probably cost less than a dollar each and I'm sure there's guys all across the world that would happily pay 30-50x that to have a replacement and maybe even an extra on hand.

If I am successful, I can share them on here. I am retired and have access to CNC machine from my old company, so I don’t need to make a bunch of money. I would sell them for cost plus shipping if successful. Wish me luck

I’m just making an assumption but they probably haven’t thought eccentrics like myself would pay 30x the price and shipping to get a replacement condenser lol

I had not, since I’m new to the group. I love a challenge, so I’m going to see if I can make them as well. I am also looking to the possibilities of 3D printing them out of a food grade plastic that can withstand high temps (polycarbonate, PEEK / Ultem). Thank you for sharing the other posts with the dimensions. I am looking to see if there was a major difference between the 70s and 80s dimensions.

Member Rustypyles would know those dimensions.

you for sharing the other posts with the dimensions. I am looking to see if there was a major difference between the 70s and 80s dimensions.
From the Fletch’s Peterson Pipe Notes article linked above (if you haven’t read it already:
“Knowing that the typically out of stock chimneys sold online as replacements were made with the current M6.3X1 threads rather than the M7X1 threads used in the early 80s and that the new chimneys also lack the cross vents typically drilled in condensers of the earlier era I elected to turn my own”

As far as measurements on length, I don’t know of it’d behoove one to make a bunch at a standard measurement, as for best function, the length may vary pipe to pipe.
The chimney needs to end lower than the fire hole to be effective, but not too long. The fire hole’s placement is dependent on the angles of the stummel, which are dependent on the shape…
