Hawke mentioned his accident involving a deer. Again, sorry that happened and glad your OK Hawke.
In regards to deer crossings, I thought I would share this with everyone.

This one woman called in on a radio show wanting to know why they put deer crossings across busy highways! For real!

I just read the title as Dress Crossing and I was like "Shouldn't it be Cross Dressing?" and then I was like "Wait a second, what the heck cross dressing is doing on this forum?".

Funny, but I call BS on that being a real call (meaning that the caller was serious). Unless of course the caller was a twin: one person couldn't be that stupid.

And, if the deer can't read or didn't get the memo, we all know what happens. They're no different than people and "Ped Xing" signs. Well, there is usually more damage to your car when you hit a deer as opposed to a pedestrian. Now, a moose? A moose is to be respected, posted crossing or not. And, buffalo? Those big guys can cross anywhere they like and do.

While we are at it, we need to change where the "slow children" cross as well. At the very least we could get them some scooters so they can move faster. Maybe overpasses or underpasses so these slow kids won't get hit by cars. :puffpipe:

The signs look like "Deer Prancing".

Our deer in this part of the mountains don't prance or run across the roads, the stroll, saunter, mosey, or dawdle. They & the elk are so accustomed to people & traffic that they are like sheep or cattle on & along the roadways, grazing & barely noticing traffic. Surprisingly there are few collisions or road-kills (despite some awful drivers).

Fair do. What a complete dolt.
To be fair, I am struggling to believe anyone can be that thick and leaning towards a prank but you never know.

Nope, it was real  It adds to the colour of living if nothing else.

I have no doubt that it was a real call at some point. I've done enough customer service/phone support to know that there is always someone out there who really is that bad at thinking things through. I've talked with park rangers who had parents coming in all hot under the collar because a pack of coyotes had taken down a Rocky Mountain lamb right next to the road, and they couldn't believe that the rangers would allow such a thing to happen where kids could see it!
Also, had a friend who worked the phones for the county gardening extension, and their favorite idiot was the one who called in to find out at what altitude deer turn into elk.
They really are out there...
