Davidoff Pipes price

Not a problem bigvan for the kind of money they price them at theres artisans like Brian Ruthenberg and Claudio and many others like them that the work they do commends the price. To me Davidoff pipes are a status symbol riding on the name of a fashon designer. I guess you can say he is the KISS of the fashion world will put his name on anything he can make a buck off of lol
I guess if getting a reaction from non-pipe folks is important (what ever floats your boat), you'll get more a rise saying you are smoking a Davidoff pipe versus a Cavicchi (huh?).

This is what bothers me about davidoff too. I smoked davidoff cigarettes for a while, they're no different to the richmond superkings I've smoked for years. A friend of mine went to the davidoff shop in London a few weeks ago and commented on the variety of products at extortionate prices, i.e, watches, cufflinks, etc, and I figure you're pretty much just paying for the brand.
I like the look of some davidoff pipe tobaccos, but I've always been put off the higher price point compared to other reputable blenders (nearly £17 for a tin of davidoff scottish mixture compared to an average £12 for dunhill MM965). I wonder what, other than the name can justify an extra 1/3 on the price...
Davidoff has a high dollar cigar label too that I wouldn't give a plug nickle for.
Some folks get pulled into exclusive "brand" recognition and I get that. It's like some foks won't be caught dead on the trout stream unless they are casting the latest and greatest offering from Orvis. I can catch fish just as well on my G Loomis or St. Croix rods and not be out close to a grand in doing so. I guess I've always trained a hairy eyeball on some of those ultra expensive brand name companies but then again, I could never afford them. Some products I won't buy even if I do have the money, I'm just weird that way.

Watching a friend just finally end his nightmare, after being literally raped in court by the judge (giving just about everything he worked for to the 'bitch'), I can understand lighting up the biggest and best cigar you can find.

Just got a Davidoff Rhodesian for cheap. Even though this is an old thread, I'll give a review after I clean and smoke it.
Ha ha! "literally" is one of those words that now means everything and therefore nothing. It can be used for "actually", virtually" (another often misused term) or "figuratively". But based on context it's clear what Allan meant.
Depends. Are you more interested in buying fancy nomenclature or a quality pipe? Davidoff doesn't make pipes. They buy from a manufacturer and have their name stamped on it. If I remember correctly, the pipes are made in France. I don't know if they even make their own cigars anymore, not that it much matters. I found their cigars lacking in flavor.
You can buy a very fine pipe for a lot less money.
People will spend $800 on a Hermés, which is made by Jeantet, rather than a couple of hundred on the Jeantet. To me that's just stupid affectation, but to others it's apparently the meaning of life.
I know a guy that bought a black blasted finish Davidoff years ago. He said it was a great pipe but wouldn't have paid full price for it. I always figured at some point I'd pick one up if I found it at a deep enough discount. I like the look of their pipes, I just am not going to pay what they are asking for a rebranded piece.
As for their cigars, I do like them. The Special series and Millennium series along with some of the special releases have always been one of my guilty pleasures. I don't smoke cigars much these days so I honestly can't even remember the last time I bought one. I think I have one Double R left in the humidor aging nicely.

Zino Davidoffs' book on cigar smoking is the best tome on the subject. You will learn more in this little book than in half a dozen other cigar books.
