When I was a freshman in highschool, the girl next door was a Senior. She was good looking, dressed in outlandish 70's close, glitter make up etc. She was into the NY Dolls, the Ramones, David Bowie, T-Rex etc. When he a-hole boyfriend wasn't around (he would later be my first boss at McDonalds), she would let me in her room to listen to records. She went to see Bowie on the Spiders tour, I was invited - my parents wouldn't let me go! She loved the Dolls and Johansen. She was tragically hit and killed by a train, at the crossing right behind our homes. When I hear songs from those groups, it makes me think of her.
The Dolls just weren't very good enough musicians to hold my interest (Bowie and T-Rex did).
Johansen reinvented himself a few times, but not with Bowie-like success.
RIP, another classic era rocker down.
