I like Ryback quite a bit. Never had any of the older versions, but the modern bagged version is fantastic in a pipe on its own and as part of a blend. It brings the strength. Great for a short smoke break.

Two Timer is a burley. That's about all I can say about it, not being a big burley fan. I have lots of it in the cellar, awaiting disposition.

I used to smoke a lot of Three Castles. Three Sails isn't even close. It doesn't even look similar. Don't get me wrong. I appreciate Three Sails just fine, but Three Castles was a top shelf, premium, golden sweet virginia.

I beg to differ. Attached is an open tin of 1980 Three Castles. You will note the cut and color of the tobacco probably due to age. Three Castles was usually a fine blond color, think like you have shaved the pubes of your Swedish girlfriend. Three Sails is cut is pretty similar and tastes much of the same although like everything taste is subjective. I just saw a tin of Three Castles go down on tin bids for $540.00 which is a crazy price!

The last few years of Three Castles production were done by Mark Ryan. When the blend was discontinued, Mark started selling it as Three Sails.

It's probably nearly even at around 2lbs each (weak, I know!), but I smoke less of the Stoved on its own. I got it primarily to use as a blender, so that's the one I'll go with!

Well that takes me back. I did occasionally smoke Three Caftles as RYO, nice fresh and nasty dry. It was unnaturally blonde, like a Page 3 girl - always wondered if they bleached it somehow. It was withdrawn in the UK in the mid-80s sometime, with the ads advising that Golden Virginia was the perfect substitute, which of course it wasn't.

Yeah, that tin has darkened considerably from age. New, it was a very light golden color. Blonde is probably the best way to describe it, and yeah, it almost looked fake, or bleached. I want to be clear. I'm not knocking Three Sails. I smoke it. I've just never found it all that similar to Three Castles, other than in fine shag cut. Castles was a very sweet, relatively nicotine heavy tobacco that stained the rolling paper and your fingers. Sails is a less sweet, less complex, more cigarette leaning tobacco. I don't think it is that great out of a pipe, whereas Castles was a fine pipe smoke. If they didn't have similar names, I wouldn't have clocked one was supposed to be like the other.

I am proud to announce that The Substandard Tobasco Company of New Jersey has introduced yet another fine blend, Four Castles, “One More Castle than the Leading Competition”. This blend is reminiscent of one of our other blends, Four Sails and an Outboard Motor, except that no underage Swedish girls had to get a haircut for it.
