Other than Picayune, which might not be for everyone, I have not tried any of these blends. Which are your top choices for pipe smoking?

Picayune is my #1 fav from him.
All of the Racoon blends
VIP
Ryback
Rimboche AB, SJ and AP
Three Sails
Two Timer
...and a few others that I only have a few of in the cellar. I am in love with all of his blends. He is very diligent about where he sources his tobaccos, and makes blends exactly the way I like them, less water and more tobacco.

Thanks. Never seen the Racoon blends.

I agree with all of this, except for Picayune being my favorite. I don't think I really have a fav of Mark's blends. The VIP is special because it's a high quality aromatic VaPer. You don't see very many of those on the market.

Here's my review of it:
The light and brown Virginias are citrus sweet with a hint of butter and grass, some wood, dark fruit and earth. The smell of the tobacco from an open tin is fruity: apricots, figs and raisins, and much of that is mildly evident in the smoke. The perique is more stewed fruity (figs, raisins, plums, and dates) than peppery, but the latter is an important part of the experience. The toppings are a light German honey bourbon and a small touch of anisette, and they do tone down the tobaccos just a little. It's A.P. Rimboche with toppings. The strength is a couple of steps past the center of mild to medium, while the taste almost reaches the medium mark. The nic-hit is a slot behind the strength level. No chance of bite or harshness, and has almost no rough notes. The tobacco is a tad dry out of the tin, so you may prefer to lightly hydrate it. I usually don’t. Well balanced, it burns cool, clean and slightly fast with a very consistent, fairly smooth and complex, sweet and spicy flavor that translates to the pleasantly lightly lingering after taste and room notes. The sweet taste never wanes or gets boring. Hardly leaves any moisture in the bowl, and requires few relights. It may not have enough strength satisfy hardcore VaPer smokers, but for those who aren't - and perhaps for those are who are - whether or not you are looking for an aromatic VaPer, it's a four star blend.

I am glad for this list.. because I never was sure which tobaccos were "cigarette" and which ones were pipe.
There was a tin of London Dock at the local B&M.. I bought it, but then when I opened the plastic lid in the car it had already been cracked and was dry as a bone.. so I exchanged it. That was my only time almost trying D&R.

The only one I've tried is Two Timer, two burleys toasted twice, which I enjoy quite a bit. I also like that D&R is just a ways up the road in my part of the state, in Kenly, N.C., though the postal is in Smithfield, a larger town. Kenly used to have, may still have, a big clothing outlet, but is somewhat a crossroads town.

I am glad for this list.. because I never was sure which tobaccos were "cigarette" and which ones were pipe.
All of them originated as pipe tobacco. At one time, tobacco was just tobacco. If you wanted to smoke tobacco that was in a bag or tin, you had to use a pipe. Every small town had a farmer who sold bags or plugs or twists to the local general store. Then in the 1890's French papers came around, and also people were more rushed, and didn't have time for a pipe full, so they twisted their tobacco into cigarettes.

Mark is in the genre of the boutique/old school farmer. It is not the heavily cased and soggy commercial stuff like Capstan or a Dunhill blend. It is more of the unadulterated tobacco. However, many who have come to see the commercial soggy stuff as "better" might not like D&R. It comes dry and uncased, very similar to C&D, a down home tobacco company. Nothing fancy. No licorice casings or added tobacco flavors.

In the early 2000's when pipes were in decline and there was a nefarious move to bypass laws by selling pipe tobacco as RYO, and then offering commercial machines to inject the tobacco into tubes. Mark saw an opportunity to make a little money. He offered his pipe tobacco to be sold in RYO shops. It probably better fed his family, but it caused a lot of confusion among pipesmokers. Was it a pipe tobacco or was it an RYO.

Cigarettes commercially rolled, like Camels or Winstons (or even Kite or Bugler), use a re-hydrated chemically infused tobacco, that tastes nothing like tobacco if put on your tongue. It is nasty. But, most RYOs are pure tobaccos. They are nothing like those nasty commercial chemical laden cigarettes. They even used to have organic tobaccos.

I am not sure if I have sold his product very well with this, but I had just hoped to better explain the whole D&R, RYO thing.
