I recently acquired a Peterson System Standard that is stamped with a small encircled MADE IN IRELAND and a stamped shape number 307. The p-lip is quite a bit narrower and smaller in size from my shape number 9 Irish Free State and the other p-lip pipes I have.

I am attempting to date this pipe and I am not sure if it was made during the 1945 -1947 era based on the stamping or not.

So, two questions I have are, what date range would you attribute this pipe to being made during and when did Peterson begin stamping the shape number on their pipes?

The first 2 pictures below are for comparison with the shape number 9 Irish Free State on the top in the first and on the right in the second.

Circular COM stamp should put it in the 45-47 range I believe.

That is what I think based upon information I can find but wanted to be sure.

Any idea when the began stamping the shape number on their pipes?
I know that they were doing it in the 1920s. I don't know if they were doing more than bowl size before that time period. I recommend asking Mark Irwin at his Peterson web site.

@Sobrbiker I did reach out to Peterson as I did when I acquired the Free State but they haven't replied back yet so I thought I'd see what some on this forum might think. I have been up and down the PPN and was fairly certain of the dating but was curious as to when they started stamping shape numbers.

As an aside, a member of this forum that will remain unnamed now has me on a quest to acquire pipes from each of the eras I don't have.
