I bought a MM Cobbit Shire recently which comes with a dark stain.

I noticed there is a lot of the dark stain inside of the bowl.

Does anybody know what the stain is composed of, and whether this is safe to smoke?

I've never bought a cob with a dark stain before, so I'm not sure if this is commonplace or a defect.

Picture attached for reference.

Safer than tobacco, that contains about 100 different carcinogens...? Most likely it's activated carbon and some sort of binder. Or it could be dye. Aniline dyes are derived from coal. Aniline can have some effects on the respiratory system in some cases when there is extreme exposure. Probably no more so than... Tobacco.
