I've only seen one thread about these, but haven't seen these talked about much. Are they not liked by the pipe community? Can anyone tell me anything about them?

I've heard generally good reports. It may not be the typical Dagner, but I bought a Dagner cob from the Missouri Meerschaum site, a poker/sitter nose warmer, and it is highly satisfactory, a nice big bowl and a good acrylic stem, and a fine little smoker. People seem happy with their pipes, so far as I've heard.

Vegas Baby!!!
Toddy, I own several Dagner Pipes. Briar and cobs and they all smoke just fine. Some of the blowback is from personality and video content and the more high brow pipers shunning them. To each their own. Buy one briar and I guarantee you'll buy more, plus their customer service is absolutely second to none!!

Lol that's funny. Yeah they definitely seem to have a bit of an edgy vibe to them with a little bit of a crude demeanor. I think their original market was "blue collar smokers" which is fine, I just wasn't sure why they weren't mentioned more here. Actually here and another pipe forum there is almost no mention of them. Smokingpipes.com doesn't even sell their pipes so that's why I was curious.

We run into the Dagner's at the pipe shows and really enjoy them- some very nice people! They do a great job of branding and marketing, but they don't actually make pipes- they're factory made- I think in Italy...
...but wait a minute- Smoking pipes doesn't sell my pipes either....(but I keep hoping!)

Yeah I remember reading they were made in Italy, I have no issue with that. Italian made pipes seem to be very highly regarded even if they are factory made.
What pipes do you make Zack?

I wad gifted three by a most generous member and they smoke great all three of them. The general characteristics seem to be that they're a bit shorter and very robust. Made in Italy and inspected by the dagners before they're sold as I've understood it.

Zack makes amazing pipes, although I don't think that's what he calls them.

Of course, the Dagner cob is a collaboration with Missouri Meerschaum, hence is made in the U.S. in Washington, Missouri, just west of St. Louis, if you want to buy domestic.

I haven't seen the Dagner promotional online videos, so that had no influence on my buying their cob. It's often fun to see ads and promotions with attitude, but sometimes it's counter-productive. Do you want lots of customers from everywhere or customers from a particular niche? When I encounter big attitude in marketing, I try to look past it and at the product itself. If the ad isn't downright offensive to me, and I want the product, I'll chalk it up to getting my attention. I'm sure many of our various retailers have their own strong opinions and thoughts on things, but they put the product up front and let the customer decide. 'Not as much fun from their point of view, but a tried sales strategy.

I have a Dagner rhodesian that smokes well -- the shape itself tends to be built with a fair amount of briar around the bowl. I find they sell their Long's made pipecleaners for a good price, too.
I think the reason some find Dagner a bit of a challenge is threefold: (1) perceived as hipster (2) long winded videos (3) don't like all of the self-promotion.

There is a computer security software maker with the CEO doing the ads. The ads are clearly produced by the CEO, and the CEO has no ad experience whatever. He makes every mistake in the book, flashing tiny graphs and talking points on the screen in rapid succession, wearing odd casual clothes so when he dressed up slightly for the second set of ads, it looks even worse. Family members and employees are run in for no evident reason. People can get into big expense and trouble trying to project their personalities onto a product unless it is done just so. I think Dagner pipes are good, and this malware may be good, but maybe not so well served by the outreach.

Everyone just keeps assuming that the OP is correct. What if I posted, "Why is it that everyone on here keeps saying that they hate cabbage?" Everyone would spend pages of threads assuming reasons for why we all hate cabbage. We had one goofy thread where PM forum declared war on the Dagners, because I said something about Youtube videos being too much trouble as opposed to reading. It was all a big joke, with the Dagners making a spoof video about it. T'was good fun. Other than that, I don't recall one negative thing being said about the Dagners. Well, they may have been mentioned in a few discussions about midget pedophilia hipsters, but I don't think it was serious. Let's get back to the real question... why is it no one will smoke cabbage in their pipes?

Cabbage gives me gas when I smoke it in a cob; maybe Dagner's have engineered a pipe that will bring back the good old days of smoking cabbage to impress the ladies.

My best friend got a Dagner and loves it. It's very short but smokes well with about anything he puts in it. I can recall him saying that he really enjoyed their customer service as well. They have some neat marketing as well.
