Deep condolences for the loss of your father. This past weekend my wife & I drove to SoCal to visit my Dad's widow. He passed last year @90 years. It was strange to be there without him. She is having a family move in with her as she is 87. Visits will not be the same for sure. All that to say, I am very happy you have the pipes and tobacco as a pure 'touchstone' so to speak. The memories and connection with your Dad will only grow with each draw on one of his pipes. puffy be well...

Thank you all for so many kind words. In a way it has heightened the importance of passing on such a personal and tangible piece of his life. He had a good and fulfilling life, so there is much to celebrate but i will miss him very much.

I have spent the last two evenings cleaning, restoring and polishing these four pipes. It has felt like a very cathartic job to do and helped me a lot.

It's lovely to share a passion or hobby with a family member, i feel lucky, and grateful for the words you all have written.

My Dad smoked a pipe to relax since i can remember, mainly at weekends in the garden and in the pub beer garden. He had a lot more pipes, but these were some of his favourites. I may go through his collection at a later date but wanted to grab these and any unopened/jarred tobacco before my mum threw them out! We used to sometimes smoke together on a walk to the pub or in the Garden. A nice father and son moment!

Pipes left to right

Peterson Clontarf B7

Jar of Gawith Hogarth Summer Reserve
Jar of Sutcliff Molto Dolce

A fun dolphin pipe knife

I will smoke a bowl or two in his memory.

Lovely looking pipes and I'm so happy that you have them now. I lost my father as a younger man and I know myself that any possessions I have of his are cherished.

May he rest in peace

Hey there. Man I’m sorry for being late to the thread and just wanted to offered my deepest condolences. I lost my father just a few short years ago and miss him a lot. He wasn’t a pipe smoker but did smoke cigarettes and damn it I wish i would have come across the stuff I did on line that got me into this hobby before he was gone. Sitting on the porch with the old man and smoking a pipe just seems like a perfect way to spend time with good old dad. Never got to though. I think it’s pretty damn cool that you inherited your old man’s pipe. looks Like he had very good taste and I’m pretty impressed in his collection. I hope when you smoke them they bring back the best of memories my friend. I’m terribly sorry for your loss and hope that this is a way to find some solace and comfort.

Condolences and best wishes. It sounds like your dad enjoyed his time here, and you had a pretty nice relationship. May he rest in perfect peace. It’s meaningful that you have his pipes to smoke. When you’re in the contemplative pipe smoking zone he will be with you.

Are there things about the condition of the pipes that OP might want to check? So very often I have seen pipes presented at various locations but don't know a thing about due dilligence when it comes to them. Thoughts?
