Do any of you know if Czech tools cause an irrational fear reaction from the TSA? I've already determined that my Zippo won't cause a panic (which was surprising) but I don't want my Czech to get confiscated. Anybody have any relevant experience here? Thanks!

I honestly think they'll try to confiscate it, since it looks like a pocket knife. I'd keep it in the check in luggage.

The problem is I'm not checking any luggage, because of the ridiculous fees associated with it. They mail things, right? In case it doesn't get past the checkpoint?

This I do not know about.
You can probably try printing out this list:

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm
And then telling them that it is more like a tool than anything else, as it has no sharp or pointed edges - even the dottle digger is dull.

Well if I really wanted to I could stab someone with the poker tool ha ha.

But yeah, I didn't see anything similar to it on the banned list.

Which reminds me...how the hell is a torch lighter so dangerous that it needs to be confiscated?

Fire that'll do what...burn a peanut? Cause a small amount of pain before being blown out? The TSA is just ridiculous.

Don't you remember the shoe bomber if he had a lighter the plane would have been destroyed. My take on the new TSA rules is that is is painful now and alittle embarassing, but it will save lives. I have a good friend that is a TSA Supervisor, he lets me know of all the bitching and moaning going on and he kinda understands. His final answer to it all though is if you don't like it take the bus. Oh, and they do not mail it the chuck it in a trashcan, or keep it if you say they can. I would just put the tool on a keychain and pass it off with the rest of your keys.

i would bet to say there is flamable material on board.

a little lighter has burned many houses down just

in the hand of young kids. just think what a terrorist

could do with one. they have already tried. to many

idiots out there wanting to kill us.

I have traveled with a Czech tool in carry on bags more than a dozen times and have never had a problem.
Twice I was stopped for tobacco tins. The last time I was told to just put the tins in the bin and I won't get stopped.
I've gone through with Bic lighters many times too.

No guarantees when it comes to the TSA. I've traveled with a standard Bic style lighter many times in recent years, but it was confiscated on one of my return trips recently because it wasn't a mini lighter. I might have been able to argue it, but I didn't want any additional hassle.
Of course, they didn't seem at all concerned about my czech tool.

I feel that way also. People will moan about security being loose and terrorists taking over planes. Then when people tighten up security the moan and say it is wrong to be frisked. This is why people suck and I hate them, they are never happy. So if the security is to much go grab a greyhound, I for one will be happy to drop my draws with the others to know that me and my family are safe on a flight.

I've never been bugged about my pipe tool, or any of my pipes for that matter. It was looked at once, and I told them what it was for and they shrugged and moved on.
Also I'd honstly rather Drive myself, it may be more expensive, but at least I can smoke en route :D

The TSA took my little cigar punch off of my key chain . I quess they thought I was going to poke 5/16 holes in everyone on board until they bleed to death . The illusion of safty is a joke .It is more about submission to the Big Brother . I could take you out with the snack tray ripped from the back of the seat with my Ninja Skills and cat like reflexes . As far as over powering a plane with box cutters Yeah I can believe that , Not . If being felt up by a dim wit with mace on his belt loop makes you feel safe more power to you . Just be sure to get his number so you can walk your dog after dark .BAAAAAh :laughat:

I am with you igloo. I have walked through multiple TSA checkpoints with a folding knife on my key chain. The TSA does not instill any amount of confidence in me.

Just wonder what the Taliban or al Quaida will try next to see what Big Brother and TSA will do for the next 6 months. Lets see, try something with a lighter and they will ban matches.
