Thou art a brave soul Cosmic. I would be way to parinoid to gut an armidillo. It would be just my luck to be one of those rare 5% of the population that is suseptible to leprosy. If I was to tan an armidillo hide my PPE would make a bee keeper look casual, LOL. I'm sure fully tanned armidillo hide is perfectly safe but have a care with the "fresh" ones my friend. :)

Armadillos Can Transmit Leprosy to Humans

Our armadillos are really healthy. I only shoot the ones that are eating out of my all organic garden. And, I've yet to see one with lepracy. I'm guessing the ones with toes and tails falling off, I should avoid skinning. Ha! Actually we have a neighbor who is a taxidermist. He is my go to guy for skinning and such. Although, I harvest the fur from our meat rabbits myself, I let him do the tanning. He has all the stuff to do it better than me. Maybe, I should have a rabbit fur pipe case made next.
