I got the Wessex Donkey logs today. It is TOTALLY different than Peter Heinrich’s version. I am sure this one has Burley in it, and there’s a funny topping. Lesser quality Virginia for sure. Again, it is completely different and not as good. I think the original is going to become urban legend going forward. I am very glad that I have a lot in the cellar. I think it’s going to be worth a lot of money in the future, or at least a lot of money to my pallet so I can enjoy it over the years. In my hand I have the original on the right and the new stuff on the left. It’s a totally different tobacco blend.

Great! Why couldn't someone else have gotten it? Now that it is a Wessex product it will just be as impossible to get as Gold Block and the rest of Wessex's non-aro bullshit.
Hell, I would have been happier if Sutliff had gotten it, because they don't seem to run out of anything. And, those that know my Sutliff digs will know that, that is saying a lot.

I am really enjoying the Wessex Curly Block. It is excellent tobacco. A keeper for me.

Now I usually smoke straight VAs and am not a burley fan. I’m ok with a little burly with VAs to add body/volume to the smoke. I would say the CB has a level of burly that is at the high end of what I like, and still be acceptable. I really appreciate the low dose of perique - just right for me.

I can’t speak to the Peter Heinrich version. Here’s a video that suggests no difference in the Wessex from the PH. Andrew

After smoking the Wessex Curly Block for over a week I have decided ... I Like It! It is a very good tobacco and I believe it will age very well. This blend has a nutty burley that plays a great supporting role to the earthy Virginia and there is less perique than the Heinrich’s version. This one is less sweet and I believe there is a slight licorice topping. Very tasty. This is more of an all day smoke (think Orlik Golden Sliced or Reiners Long Golden Flake) vs the sweeter Heinrich’s version (think GL Pease Haddos Delight).
