Virginia: Newminster 400 (but it's also a flake cut which might be intimidating/complicating)
Aromatic English: Lane HGL or Sutliff Aromatic English
English: Peter Stokkebye English Luxury or Sutliff Match 759
Burley: I hear a lot of talk about C&D Haunted Bookshop and Old Joe Krantz being good. I don't like burleys so I'm not really any help there.
Aromatic: Depends on what flavor you're looking for. Common ones are Lane 1Q and BCA.
Lakeland: Ennerdale Flake
Balkan: Arango Balkan Supreme
American: C&D Epiphany (again, this is what I hear talked about; I don't like it myself becyae of the burley)
Scottish: Sutliff Match 20

With a cob, burley is the king. Go with drugstore codger blends. Carter Hall, Sir Walter Raleigh, Half & Half all good. Good old Capt. Black Royal hits the spot all day long. If you want fancy, go with C & D Eight State Burley, if it's available.

Honestly, it does not matter too much, you will inevitably/statistically use up your first pouch packing wrong, tamping wrong, smoking too fast and generally not getting out much out of the smoke.
