I know some have asked about me doing stone inlays, what the rest of you think?...cool or too much bling

for tampers?

Me? I think they're fantastic. I love stone inlays and think they add a whole lot of visual interest to any piece.

Stone inlays are a beautiful addition to smoking accoutrements. Castello pipes have the stone inlay option on their pieces that are very attractive. The additional cost is substantial but worth it in my opinion. I can just picture a fine Castello with a matching tamper both with stone inlays as a set. Now there's an idea!!

@doc-I have studied the different pipe-makers designs well in order to gain ideas for tampers. I also thought close matching tamper-to-pipe ideas or perhaps a tamper/pipe-stand sets...perhaps when my new equip order comes in I can also start making some basic pipe-stands as well

Gilding the lily... not for me, thanks.
However I have seen these online lately... I'll search my saved links and see what I can come up with.

I think so, small amounts to keep costs still low, but enough to

look cool and not take away from natural look/grains of the briar...
I'm going to get a small amount of crushed blue/green stone to

Test a few concepts out, I hope everyone likes

I like the papa duke line, but wanted to keep an all briar tamper under $20./ea

I also like Ming's line and other high-end pipe masters but $100s of

Dollars for a tamper, hmm maybe for some collectors..but not for all/me :-(

@dragon,

I like your business idea regarding Materials and cost factor. Briar and stone sounds really pleasing. I don't do plastic! As they say, different strokes.
