For the uninitiated what might the experienced compare this to?

The obvious comparison is McClelland VAs but that is misleading. It’s not McClelland. The vinegar will knock you over when you open the tin, which is where the McC comparison comes in. The vinegar aroma doesn’t translate to the smoke- what I get is rich, dark, sweet, some spice, midway between mild and medium strength.
