Keep in mind I am new to pipe smoking so this might sound ridiculous, but I was thinking about getting some bulk burley and perique and blending them together. With that said, would that even be a good idea? If so, what ratios should I begin with and what kind of burley and perique bulk should I get?

Have you tried a BurPer before? There aren't many of them, but Wilke Wall Street is apparently one that's available.

Barney Gumble is the best Burper I know:

But in all seriousness....to the OP, one of my favorite blends these days is Warped Kings Stride, which is a Burley/Perique/Virginia, with a touch of cigar leaf thrown into the mix. It's a damn good combo, so if you do some blending of your own, I'd definitely go with Embers' ratio suggestion.

Haha! Warped Kings Stride sounds nice. Sounds good I'll stick to the 5/1 ratio

Strong stuff! I believe Haunted Bookshop has Perique as well.

Burley and perique mixed is one of my favourite styles of a blend. That said, I’ve found a condimental amount of red Virginia to make the combination pop.

as a brief aside, just cos in another thread you mentioned you were looking at maybe getting some whole leaf. Another variety to look at is dark air cured Virginia. This plays with the other components in a similar vein to perique, and while I’m still experimenting with it, I think I might prefer blending it with burley than perique for my working smokes.

never tried a burper but have tried stuff with it together and from that I assume it's not dramatic enough of a change to catch on. Too strong on both flavors not in a bad way just not as likely to tick the boxes for as many people. Where as vaper doesn't compete and cover each other as much if that makes sense. Or at least that's my guess. Darn it now I need to try one.

From my experiments it seems anything more than 15% Perique and it overwhelms the blend.
Which is nice sometimes if you like a fruity forward flavor (at least that's what I've got with Virginia based bledns).

I actually got the idea earlier today when I was smoking C&D burley flake #3. I was curious how it would taste if the Virginia was taken out of the blend.

I’ll check out the dark air cured Virginia. Mahalo!

That makes sense. We’ll if you try it, I’d love to hear about the experience.
