Crazy Tax on Pipe Tobacco

I just paid 74.95 for 13 ounces of Prince Albert. 85% tax in Florida. I’ll buy it somewhere else next time I’m on the road. It really doesn’t make sense but I paid it because with the cost of gas, it doesn’t pay to travel far just to save a few dollars. What does Prince Albert cost where you are?

Sounds about right. Looks like it’s $38.25 on smoking pipes for a 14oz tub before any tax. So excise and sales tax puts it right in the ball park

Being Canadian I ordered a lighter & 4 oz of Bulk Troost Match from Smoking pipes for $152 CDN. it was declared properly but cost me $79.00 cnd {for 4 oz} That's Expensive

Yup, it is brutal here in Canada. I haven't stepped in a physical shop for a few years, but from what I understand a tin is generally $50-60 here.

In addition to ICMS (VAT) of 17%; there is an IMI (industrial tax) to be paid. For tobacco the IMI rate is set at 600%...

so the 14oz tub of Prince Albert would be ($38.25 * 1.17) * 6) or ~ $268

or around $28,72 for 1.5 oz

Yup, it is brutal here in Canada. I haven't stepped in a physical shop for a few years, but from what I understand a tin is generally $50-60 here.

I just bought 2 oz Amphora a few days ago for $37.95 Must have been on sale / clearance

Unbelievable. I pay $24.99 per tub. I believe Carter Hall and the Prince are around $29.99 per tub. — I don’t know why they cost more, Granger’s better ?

Seriously, though. You need to cellar deep now because it’s never going to get any cheaper or more available than it is today.

What blows my mind, is that you people think that business owners set around thinking up new ways to give you a cheaper product, ha ha. Have you ever owned a business? Hos and bitches ain't cheap, MFer... ha ha.

Honestly, I have no idea how much a tin of codger slop is. I've never seen it in a B&M, and if you ask them, usually they send you to the gas station on the other side of town. But, I was talking about 14oz of tobacco (period).

Wouldn't have thought that about Florida. Thank goodness Alabama hasn't figured out that people still smoke pipes. I think the tax is like 10 cents per 2oz
