Evening everyone. I am new to fixing up estate pipe and still learning. I got this pipe off ebay and after it arrived I found these cracks. Seller refunded my money and told me to keep the pipe. So I'm wondering if there is anything that can be done with it. There are no cracks that I can see inside the bowl but the outside has two big cracks. Can it be fixed, can I smoke it or is it just a complete loss.

Wow, that's in rough shape, not just the cracks.
The photo came through, but it'd be good to see photos of the whole enchilada, including the nomenclature.

If that were my pipe, I would clean the inside of the shank with everclear and remove the cake from the bowl, then scrub the stem inside and out. Then I would re-assess the depth of the cracks. They don't look like they go very far, so I would just stabilize it with carpenter's glue. If you want to get fancy, you could sand the rim of the bowl smooth, save the dust and mix with an epoxy to fill the outer cracks instead of regular glue. Fine sand then buff it. This is all harder than it sounds and there are definite techniques to follow. To me, it seems structurally sound and I wouldn't worry about using and abusing this pipe. It seems a fine, sturdy pipe and the price was right. :) This is a great pipe to begin honing your repair chops with. Do a pipe repair search on google and it should bring up some fellow forum members' detailed instructions to follow. GO FOR IT!! I hope you get many years of fine smoking from it. Congrats !

I believe you pasted the URL's of the thumbnails in your album on the two tiny ones. Open the full photo, get the URL of that.....

Putting that pipe back in shape would be a short course in restoration. Best luck.

Somebody loved that pipe ... loved smoking the hell out of it, at any rate.

Ok, so I was told to keep lots of pictures of my work on this pipe as it's the same as porn for those afflicted with PAD.
So what I have so far is the salt/everclear treatment, how the bowl looked afterward, the mess of the stem-I had to soak it in everclear for two days as the interior of the stem was so blocked I could not even get a pipe cleaner it, how the stem looked after I soaked it/had to enlarge the int. of the stem as even after cleaning the draw was horrible/then sanding down all the teeth chatter and fix the button, and last sanding down the bowl so it's ready for the superglue/briar fix.
I'll be working on that next then another sand down and refinish. So here's the pictures for now. I will get the finished product up later this week. Enjoy.
