I would like to add that I don't believe Elmer's wood glue is toxic, while most epoxies and heavy adhesives are. You would never need more bonding power than Elmer's anyway, and when considering the potential health risks, though likely minuscule or non-existent, it's smart caution to go with the ol' wood glue.

The length and placement of the crack amounts to what would be a “scarf” joint. It’s a strong join, but in this case it’s subjected to moisture and heat, and pressure. A band would help, but I wouldn’t expect it to be a long lasting solution. But since you don’t have a lot invested in the pipe attempting such a fix would be worth a shot.
