I came across this "Weekend" pipe while looking at cheap estate pipes. The fact that it's stamped "REAL BRIAR" probably means it was nothing spectacular to begin with, but I like the shape and it's about $17 shipped. Is the crack in the bowl worth trying to fix, and if so, how would you go about it?Opera Snapshot_2024-05-16_122457_i.ebayimg.com.pngOpera Snapshot_2024-05-16_122622_i.ebayimg.com.pngOpera Snapshot_2024-05-16_122826_i.ebayimg.com.png

You could make a pipe out of just about anything as long as there's a layer of pipe mud coating the bowl.
The only reason to avoid the pipe is if you think it's ugly.
That's the thing, if I can't make it look nice, I'd rather smoke a cob, or save my pennies for a Morgan Bones, lol. I decided to pass on old cracky. I'm only looking at old cheap pipes because the pipe acquisition disorder is hitting hard.

Ironically the broken pipe aesthetic is the entire principle behind "Rusticated" pipe finishing.
You could embellish the crack with some carving, or give it a sandblast to hide the crack with rough texture.

As a last resort many pipe companies have a line of pipes with a painted finish at which point half the bowl could be made of filler.

I've "fixed" pipes that were cracked like that, wicking in some very thin superglue with a pipette, usually followed by sanding and polishing. . The result is a glued-up cracked pipe. Usable and stable. (Better a cracked pipe than a crack pipe!)

I wouldn’t buy it, for that price are still much pipes to buy without a crack, But if you’ve fallen in love with that pipe, my opinion means nothing. Buy it smoke it, cracked bowls aren’t easy to repair.
