Hi all! Forum milestone: I may have broken something and am consulting the community! Woo hoo!

The issue I am having is with a new Fiamma di re pipe. On the top of the bowl near the rim, a small crack appears when the pipe is smoked. It is almost invisible when the pipe is rested, and as you can see in the photo, it is very faint, if present at all. I am wondering what the repair possibilities might be and how I might have caused this issue in the first place. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It may not be a crack but a divot or pit developing where some sand or stone are working there way out of the briar. I wouldn't worry about it at all. If it gets larger you could have it filled. If its any consolation to you, I bought an Erica System Reject (Pete Second) House Pipe in the 80's with an actual divot or crack in the rim ... its now 40 yrs later and it hasn't gotten any worse and doesn't effect the smoking at all. Maybe in another 40 years I might have to have it repaired ! ;)

Sometimes that does happen. I would discuss what options your vendor will offer in regard to this.

I have a 1930's Yello-Bole that has the same type of crack. It opens up slightly when smoking, but the crack hasn't run over the years. Not to say that might be the case with the one you have. I could theorize, speculate, etc. on what might be... but in the end briar is an organic product, and has anomalies.

If it concerns you, get in touch with vendor.

I noticed a very small crack on a nice Danish pipe that I bought off ebay several years ago. The seller is a good guy and was very apologetic. It was a hairline crack & not very noticeable. He said he would refund all my costs immediately. - It’s such a nice pipe that I said I’d keep it. He refunded half of (the already very good) price. It’s been smoking well for years. The hairline crack never got any worse after many smokes.
