I have a couple, and enjoy them very much. They have a pretty generously sized bowl without being overly tall, which is a feature I like. Although I have smoked MM pipes with and without finish, I can tell no difference with the way they smoke.

'Never had a problem with a MM cob. Some people say they like them because they're disposable, but after you break them in and really become attached to particular ones, they are anything but disposable, and they last (in many cases) for years, decades. My only issue is that I like to either buy the pricier ones with a stock acrylic stem or retrofit them with Forever stems, or similar acrylic stems, since I chew through the softer plastic. Once I make that upgrade, I'm a happy cob smoker.

I smoke my country gentlemen almost every day. Great pipe.
I haven't noticed any effect from the finish on mine either. This is comparing it to my MM Great Dane, MM Freehand, and about a dozen MM legends that I use as work pipes.
They all smoke fantastic, and the Country Gentlemen is probably the best smoker of them all.
Buy one. You won't regret it.

I have one and it is my number one pipe. After smoking it for a while I decided to remove the wood inside the bowl (stem inside the bowl). I used a jewelry drill and succeeded. It smokes better than anything else right now.

Country Gentleman is a great pipe. The only problem I ever had with mine was on fault of the pipe, I chomped through the stem. Even with an electrical tape repair to the stem it still smoked great.

Country Gentleman is my favorite cob. I do not notice any effect of the finish on how it smokes.

I broke my CG a while back unfortunately, but I bought a 2 pack of MM Mark Twains, which are also on the bigger side of the MM lineup. They are keeping me happy for the moment, but I'll get another CG one of these days

I have 3 in my rotation, they smoke great. I probably smoke 1 everyday and I don't notice any negative effect from the outer coating.

I like the stem on the diplomat better due to the wideness.
You can buy a second diplomat stem and put it in a MM CG. Actually it is called a danish stem/bit. If you buy your cobs from aristacob you can order the CG with the danish stem.
