Bit the bullet today on a carver I did not know about but the shape, dimensions and grain are just perfect for me! Hope it’s gonna smoke as good as it looks!

Congratulations on the pipe. Peter’s stem work is precise, delicate and very comfortable. His shaping and engineering are also first class. I hope you enjoy the pipe.

Back around 2000 I owned 3 Matzhold pipes and they were gorgeous.Their grain was spectacular and the pipes were incredible looking. All three were wet smokers and I got rid of them all. I was sad to let them go but I hate a pipe that gurgles. I think Peter makes some of the prettiest pipes on the market.
I hope my three were just early versions and he had fixed this issue.

Yeah saw your posts while searching the carver. Scared me a bit since I always liked your baccy recommendations! Fingers crossed.

I don't usually like a stepped-down stem, but with the pipe, it looks perfect. The briar has excellent grain, the flow of the design is exceptional, and unlike too many artisan pipes, the weight is quite reasonable. Perfect. As you smoke, take time to savor this beautiful pipe. I have an Austrian pipe I like a lot, a Kemperling smooth bent Rhodesian.

I hope he got that issue fixed as no one carves a better looking pipe than Peter. Let us all know how it smokes for you. He also never carves a sand blasted pipe . If you have never noticed. I am sure he has fixed the gurgles issue. Let us all know how it smokes. I wanted to collect his pipes back in the day because they were all so gorgeous. The lines he got out of his pipes were all so cool looking. I really hope he has cured that issue. I don't see many of his pipes on the estate market.

I don't see how he could have kept carving all these years if his pipes all smoked wet for the last 20 years based on his making wet smoking wet for the last 20 years. People would have talked about it long ago. I am willing to bet his pipes smoke dry now. I bought my pipes all three at a time back in the day. They were just so pretty I couldn't not buy them.

Finally had the chance to try my new Matzhold! It smoked dry, stayed lit and no gurgles. The smoke seemed colder than in most of my pipes! I tried it with some good old Capstan blue. I did not get the usual sweetness I got from my Va flakes but will see after a few bowls! I’m really happy, even if I got dinged with 90$ of Canadian duties for an estate pipe ;)B0128E10-EF1E-45FE-B1EC-08E61B775ED7.jpeg
