I remember buying Fuente Double Chateau sticks for $1.85 in 1990 (yes, I know I'm old.) An inflation calculator says that stick should cost $4.59 now, but it's more like $14 at my B&M. As the old saying goes, something is worth what people are willing to pay.

Becauseth not a cigar forum this placeth, be, rather a Pipe one (there's a hint in its name), meaning, in most cases-eth, we only smoke the cheap ones and bother not with the goings on of the snobby stuff.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye

By decree of the benevolent King george d, henceforth ALL discussions on the Pipesmagazine forum must pertain solely to pipes, pipe tobacco, and pipe accessories. It is well known that the average pipe smoking enthusiast knows not a whit of matters beyond pipes. Therefore, all discussions in the sub forums, Food and Drink, General Discussion, and Cigar Discussion must pertain to pipe smoking exclusively. The spread of misinformation by those unqualified to speak on such matters will not be tolerated. All posts will be closely monitored by the Kings sheriff and violators will be swiftly dealt with. The penalty for a first offense will be twenty lashes with a church warden pipe cleaner. A second offense will incur…well, it involves Captain Black Grape and cannot be discussed in polite company.

Pappy van winkle and BTAC used to just sit on the shelves at low prices. Then magically marketing took its course and now you have to wait in lines to get lucky enough for just a chance to get some.

Yeah the CPI (which the inflation calculator is based off) is known to be complete BS. Real inflation (Tobacco, ammunition, copper wire, liquor, etc) is where you see the real amount of value from our labor is being stolen from us.

I’m a real cheap bastard when it comes to cigars. I very rarely ever pay anything over $3.50 per cigar. The only time I spring for full price fancies is if I’m on vacation and I want to check out a local B&M. I’ve no problem dropping $25-$30 on a couple great ones, but that’s about my limit. I don’t mind spending $15 on a tin of tobacco because that one tin will last me like 25-30 smokes.

OK, then I'm not crazy remembering 8-5-8's at $30/box.
