yea mm cobs are super affordable and very good smokers, I am surprised that you had a burn out, it probably a weak point, don't give up on them tough, I still have mine and its still strong!!! I hope I never burns out.

I have had some MM cobs so hot I couldn't stand to hold them in my hand and never had one do THAT. On the other hand, all my MM cobs have always been plaster coated, I've never had a "natural" one.
As others said, must have been a weak spot/defect in the cob. Don't take it as a a strike against MM quality. Defects happen. I wouldn't let it stop me from buying more pipes from MM. They make a great smoking pipe.

Wow.. I also thought it was a chinamans cob but theat does look like a legit label. I've smoked the cheap fake ones and they are shit!
Not your fault either mate, must have been a faulty cob with an air pocket in the wall.
SImple fix, buy a new MM cob for less than the price of a pint of beer and puff away! :)

Thanks for all the continued responses.
I've resolved to plug it for now while I wait on a replacement MM.
This will give me time to choose a pipe I feel suits me better.
Glad to hear repeated assertions that I'm not entirely to blame.

Or save yourself the effort and just toss it in the trash, run down to your local Walgreen's and buy another one for less than a drive-thru cheeseburger... The ones Walgreens has aren't the top of the line MM cobs, but they smoke fine and will give you something to puff on while you pick out the MM model that best suits you.

My only advice with a corn cob is smoke slow. Allow the cake to built in the cob. It allows for a cooler and more flavorfull smoke. The idea is after the charing light. Once its light and going dont puff on it so tour producing dark clouds of smoke. Its a common mistake to wana see the cherry burning. You want to allow the flame to kinda die off to where its not seen but still taking puffs to where its still going. It took alot of trile and error (cobs tossed) but once you develope the skill to smoke a corn cob pipe. You can smoke pretty much any pipe or atleast thats what i believe.

Oh and if you buy a used cob or want to clean an existing cob.. DO NOT do the rock salt and alchohol method..
It litterally shrunk the top end of my cob like a wool shirt making it crakced to the base and apart like a frigging pine cone!
