I can honestly say, I've never smoked a corncob, each time I think about getting one, I get pipe cleaners instead!
Like Collin, now watching the video.

I love my cobs! I just picked up two more yesterday a Washington bent and a Country Gentleman bent. I love them because they smoke nice clean and sweet! As well as the fact that they are perfect for when I'm out fishing or hunting, not a big upset if I screw up and break or loose one they dont cost much. :puffy:

Haters are gonna hate. Smokers can see through the hate while blowing cool clouds of sweet smoke from a wonderful pipe no matter it's price point. Missouri Meer is the world standard in cob pipes grown, made, and sold in this country to many that may mean less because they are just cobs, but name one product that has been that in the states in recent years. and I might enjoy that also as much.

ps. There are many briars in my rotation also difference is I am no hater.

I'm an unabashed MM cob lover. (Hence, my screen name.)

Frankly, I could care less what the briar snobs think.

Their closed minds are unlikely to open.

However, I can understand their intolerance. About 30 years ago I had a rack full of briars and cobs weren't even on my radar screen. I thought what hillbilly would smoke those?

It turns out that I'm THAT hillbilly.

Now, I have a rack full of MM cobs and only a handful of briars. Oh, I enjoy looking at and smoking a fine briar and admire the design and craftsmanship of pipes from around the world.

But at this stage in my life, image is not a concern.

A comfortable pipe at an affordable price is.

But, no matter the price, cobs offer quality, character and a satisfying smoking experience.

To my mind -- to my taste -- they not at all inferior to briars.

But they are different.

They are uniquely American.

And most importantly, MM cobs are superb smokers.

Yes, I live in Missouri and appreciate this country's history and literature, and perhaps that carries a certain prejudice, accounting to some degree for my cob preference.

It cannot be denied that the cob boasts a rich heritage.

It's a source of pride to those who make it, smoke it and admire it from afar.

Genuine Americana.

Uh oh, I fear I've actually become a cob snob.

Just watched the vid. It was nice to see the visual. I love cobs and smoke 3 a day on average along with a briar. They cannot be beat for value and quality smoke. Age is a beautiful thing concerning Missouri meerschaum cob pipes.

Corn I liked your post, and I wouldn't say you're a snob. I just think you're one of those people like me who really enjoys their cobs. I just wish those who look down on them, would light one up and see what their missing. Enven if they won't take our opinions Frosty and Santa couldn't be to wrong!

I have to say thanks for posting the vid. It is always great to see an American product still being turned out. Hopefully, with the help of this site, they can get back to over 100 employees again.
An old corn cob pipe is the only thing that was passed down to my father in-law as his father was poor. He gave one to each of his seven sons. Had one for each day of the week. I am looking forward to getting it and passing it down to my son someday.

Hip, Hip, Hooray, 3000 pipes a day and I got my two that I enjoy both twice a week, and o, how sweet they are. I have some beautiful briar pipes, but I love my cobs.

Sorry to be redundant, but can you guys copy / paste your comments into the article itself?
Even though the forums are much busier now, the fact remains that the large majority of readers of this site just read the articles and not the forums.
It makes it look like nobody read or commented on the article and video to the casual observer.
I appreciate this favor that should take you 10 seconds or less.
Thanks.

Nice vid -- Gotta say MM is just about the only American made product I am glad to own. Part of me wishes that were otherwise for nationalistic reasons that are perfectly natural the past 100 years or so on the global scale, and let's face it. . .since the very beginning for the U.S.
I own two cobs myself, one is not MM and I don't like it (just shoddy quality -- made in south america judging by the name) the other is a MM Great Dane (Egg) that I love. Very smooth, very sweet, very nice. I also own a MM Old Hickory that I love as well. They're a great company that knows what they're doing and are absolutely fantastig.
Cobs aren't as pretty as briars and clays when you get down to it in my opinion, but damn they smoke fine and that right there is the thing now isn't it? Everyone knows there are three factors in the price of a briar -- size, grain, and craftsman. With cobs its been pretty standardized on all three marks by MM so we can get a quality pipe for an unbeatable price, every time. Damn fine deal if you ask me.

To those who extol the virtues of the venerable cob I say, "The emperor has no clothes."

They have their place, in situations that might jeopardize your good pipes; but that's about it.

I could probably become inured to the "corny off-taste" if I had to; but I'll never adjust to those chintzy plastic stems

-- and I can't see spending $25 more for a "real" pipe stem.

I thought the article and video presentation were super!

...and I hope the corncob pipe survives another 200+ years (just not in my pipe rack).

The rack pictured holds 24 and does not turn. Would be nice if it did. Might fix

that someday if I come across the right piece to salvage for parts.
